Liste der Bands Grind Death Trencher All Suffering... Soon to End

Trencher had released “Lips…” some six years ago and had quite impressed the Metal scene. I cannot be positive whether they left a good or bad impression as the record had its share of "love it or hate it" moments. 2006/2007 were those years when micro-genre cybergrind (found under other denominations like electrogrind, casiogrind and other idiocies) had its fifteen minutes of fame reaching both its pinnacle and downfall in early 2008 with Genghis Tron’s “Boarding Up The House” (I'm sure they hate the comparison by the way...). Since then, the genre has been quieter and is only remembered for its oh-so awkward moments.

In mid 2011, Trencher are now back with what they consider their third album “All Suffering… Soon To End” but peaking under 20 minutes, I’d rather consider it as a comeback EP. What happened exactly in the meantime that it actually took so long for the Brits to release something new? I don’t have the slightest idea… personal issues, lack of recognition, well… it’s not going to do us any good to try and think of it.

The main difference between their previous material and their newest release? Well 5-6 years. Time that has passed and has turned their music into something a lot less juvenile and teen-angst ridden. While the keys still remain an essential part of their music, they're more mature, more adult and serve to build up atmospheres rather than go into berserk mode and fuck everything up. Musically Trencher got darker, heavier and what used to be a genuine (yet fucked up) form of Grindcore is now closer to the realms of death metal.

Sure it will never sound like Autopsy or Immolation because these guys still aim at doing something a bit different, but the riffing and attitude has dropped from cocaine-induced trance to something closer to heroin-like stupor. Maybe they changed dealers?

Though it’s rather short, the changes that can be observed are satisfying and somehow welcome. To a certain extent it feels more like music that you can come back to willingly where “Lips…” still remains hard to play all the way through.
