12 tracks between Stadium Rock and classic
Hard Rock – that’s the first publication the
Adrenaline Kings are offering to their audience. Recorded at Summerton Studio in Sankt Pölten and produced by mastermind Dieter Libuda this self-titled debut album of one of the most talented
Hard Rock bands of Austria shows a surprisingly high level of quality. Broad drums, screaming rhythm guitars with the typical
Marshall-amp sound which is so ideal for this kind of music, a fine bass – the musicians are experts of their trade and know perfectly well how to get the sound they want to produce. The excellent vocals just fulfill the promise given by the superb instruments.
And to put the icing on the cake: the
Adrenaline Kings love their work and that joy is perceptible in every note and every riff!
The album starts fast with “Cowboy
Savage”, a groovy rock song with a catchy refrain. “Exotic
Lady” and “When the rain comes down” have both slow, almost ballad-like intros but turn then into Stadium Rock tracks with a sound that’s firmly rooted in the 80's. “
Live again” has a pleasant sing-along refrain and “
Kings of
Adrenaline” comes with a classic guitar duel in the middle.
Both tracks are just perfect for live performances with a big audience.
And “Five Minute
Dynamo” has a guitar hook line any of the axe wizards of the 80's would have been proud of. It’s songs like these that make a whole stadium full of fans sing and dance.
But the
Adrenaline Kings can do slow emotional songs just as well. “Black
Rain” is a powerful half ballad with strong vocals in the refrain – this is Bernhard Högl at the peak of his performance. “Leaving Song” has a middle part with two voices that seem to dance and glide around each other. “
Crystal Tears” is a wonderful, dreamlike and highly emotional ballad, the kind of song that makes lovers draw closer to each other and everyone else to flick on their lighters until a stadium looks like a starry night sky.
All in all there’s not a moment on the whole album that makes you regret the purchase. It’s just a shame that this CD is only available directly from the band. If for sale on the market I am absolutely sure it would score high in the charts.
And the more I think about it the more I regret all the media attention that’s wasted on those cloned talent show combos. For me the
Adrenaline Kings are definitely the
Kings of Rock and I am looking forward to future concerts and releases.
