Dark, distorted and fun...

I've been a fan of They Ate Isengard since I first heard "Harvey Parker's Gospel" on Youtube a few years ago. The band's come a long way since then, and they keep evolving with every release they make. Abstract Corn Cloud is everything you'd expect from TAI, and more. Even if the seemingly playful sound was shaken off with their third release, this album seems to offer an even more serious and heavier feeling, something in the likes of :wumpscut: and other industrial electronic bands. The pixilated undertone is still there thought, just as it should be. "Honeybucket" is a great example of a good balance between silly and heavy. It works, simply because of the bands portfolio. Then there are a few ones like "Power Of The Hour" and "Joastelle" which seems to cover a new, deeper level of TAIs esthetics. Another factor that makes this album fresh is the lack of colors. TAI started out very colorful, and have now lost all of them. I thought the fun colors was half the thing, but this new black and white approach proves me wrong. The music video for "Laudanum" is a good example.

To sum things up, this is a great full-length debut, in pretty much every aspect. I want more like it, but something tells me TAIs next release will be even different-er... and that's probably for the better.
