This was the second album of Aragon that I had bought (after 'Don't Bring the Rain). Although this is a collection of tracks apparently thrown together as a stopgap between albums, it features one of the best prog rock songs that I know; the title track 'Rocking Horse'. This is a narrative of toys coming to life in a child's bedroom where she is terrorized by 'Jack' in the box and takes a ride on the 'Rocking Horse', finally falling to her death. At 20 mins. long, this is a genuinely scary song with a lengthy but hypnotic instrumental final part.
'Ghost' (2 versions) is also an excellent song and the whole album hangs well together.
Some reviewers make much of the fact that Aragon uses synthesizers to reproduce the drums but frankly, it did not bother me. I found this to be inventive and the vocals (Les Dougan) complement the style of music and are fairly unique.
I cannot play it enough at the moment and has left me searching for other Aragon albums, (not easy).
