Sack the sound man!!

It's quite hard to write a decent lengthy review about this, as trying to describe white noise doesn't come with much variation or depth. But I feel as though you must be warned. I'm quite opened minded when it comes to metal. I look for good and bad in all albums, even if they're brain crushingly boring, they can still be well played with a good production.

But with this, I have no idea whether it's well played or not and it's not really that interesting either. All I know is this is supposed to be symphonic black metal. The production is hideous!! You can't hear any of the drums, the guitar is buried low in the mix and is just rendered to a high pitched fuzz, although occasionally they can be heard to have a bit of a rhythm when the rest of instruments stop.

I'll give it a bit of credit though. He's a good black metal vocalist. The synth is pretty good in places, but sadly they just dominate the whole album and drown out the rest of the instruments. When mixed together they sound a bit like a passenger jet on a runway getting ready for take off.

Unfortunately there seems to be little variation too. It's just break neck speed from start to finish with the odd moment of calm, when the guitar can is allowed to be heard. Maybe I'm being a bit to harsh. Maybe the instrumentation is very good, but we just don't know, the production is dreadful. Luckily I bought this in a clearance sale from a music mail order catalog, but if I'd paid full price for it, I would of been gutted, as I've only listened to it twice since 1998.
