THANATOPSIA is a cross between Thanatos, a greek word for death and Utopia for domain or realm thus Death's Domain.

June 28, 2009 Phat Fernandez of Mandatory Raping, A bulacan metal band, met Marvin Abliter of Black Diagram in a Textgroup Community and decided to form a band.. With the inaccessibility of members, the two went and form a new band.. It was originally named Thanatos but suggested to change the name to not be misinterpreted.. Thus Thanatopsia was formed. The band went through some line up changes including Jigz from Ossuario to play guitar. Then by December of that year Infernal Wings guitarist Emmanuel Edurise and Bern Espiritu from Burial Ground joined the band replacing other members.. The band played a couple of gigs here and there then growing frustrated with the availability of members to show up in gigs, the band decided to get Mon Ramuel Buluran, an ex-Scytheovamon bassist to replace Mark of Winter Nightfall.. thus the current line up of Thanatopsia is formed..
