Canadian Folk metalists, (Although it would arguably be better to file them under "Pagan Folk") Fjord started out in 2005, and at present is a two person act with Orgoth playing bass and guitar and Wotanson, apart from being the vocalist, playing drums and a variety of folk instuments.
It took them until 2007 before they managed to get a demo, "Vinlandic Northern Heritage", released, followed up in 2009 by a full length CD. Although certainly in the folk metal sphere their sound is heavier and sharper than most in this genre.
Where for many new bands active in Pagan and Folk Metal, Odinism is more of a public drawer than really serious philosophy, Fjord takes the old Nordic religion and philosophy very serious, a stand that is best expressed by the following excerpt from their official webpage at myspace:

“It will be the doom of our folk the day True Men of Honor and integrity renounce their sword and shield for the security and easyness of capitulation. When guilt overtakes their hearts and extenguish the Primordial Flame of Wotan. For that day the host of Surtr will have finally vanquished the last front of Einherjärs. Woe unto us all when the darkness of Loki prevails over the Light of Balder.”
The Northern Vinlandic Wotanist Folk Metal band Fjörd is standing tall against all attacks foreign and domestic. A brother has left our clan to persue another path yet new blood joined in and added its weapons to our might. From hardship Fjörd will arise mightier than ever and with the guidance of the All-Father, will once again lay waste those who stand before us. A new sun has risen and a new future opens itself before us, we shall follow our destiny and honour folk, faith and gods. Hail Wotan!
