(Instrumental)

2. VANISHING LESSONS

Silently vanishing, then reappearing
Slipping away for a while
Start dematerializing before your eyes
Always a step from our grasp

At the turn of the century
Lived a Mr. Houdini
Shrouded in a mystery
He fooled all humanity
Why is it a mystery
The very thing that seems to me
Explains itself so easily
The love of wealth brings misery

Things we acquire means fuel for the fire
The feeling is gone, then our soul we will pawn
Things we acquire means fuel for the fire
The feeling is gone, then our soul we will pawn

Chinese water torture cell
And metamorphosis
Jail escapes, buried alive
Walking through a solid wall

Suicide among the rich
Defies the laws of reason which
Tells us those who have it all
Must often answer to death's call

Things we acquire means fuel for the fire
The feeling is gone, then our soul we will pawn
Dollars for happiness, that's what the world tells us
Pour all yourself in the pursuit of wealth

Things we acquire means fuel for the fire
The feeling is gone, then our soul we will pawn
Dollars for happiness, that's what the world tells us
Pour all yourself in the pursuit of wealth

Ever since I was a boy
I have always kept your laws
Now I want to follow you
Join you in your noble cause
Jesus turned to him and said
Sell all you have, give to the poor
The rich young ruler hung his head
Not to follow, walked instead

Mark 4:19

3. CLAUSTOPELUNKER

If a stone holds you down - keep your head above ground
though the foothold can be merciless
in a world not your own - it's the weight of the stone
holding me, holding you - very fast - quite fast

It's not the weight of the stone that's holding you down
it's the way it fascinates your mind
and just because it causes you to fall
don’t mean it tempts me very much at all
I can see that it feels like a millstone is tied around your neck
but if you come clean and say "I don't have it together"
you can still keep your faith in check

3,7,9,10,12,14 feet - no spineless fellow here
down below 100 more, and not a sign of fear
X marks the spot at 145, a stone dislodged held him fast
how could he know while now alive - 13th day would be his last
they tried and tried to bring him to the surface in vain
if a stone holds you down - keep your head above ground
though the foothold can be merciless

For 12 more days - the foothold was merciless
with no possible means of ingress or egress
in the end a paradox was found
the beast that held him was a 10 pound stone
are you afraid - are you afraid?
That where He takes you - is a cold dark lonely place
where it's hard to find his face - hard to find his face
in a world that is not your own

in a world not your own - it4s not the weight of the stone

1 Cornith 10:23-30

4. BEARING GRUESOME CARGO

This is why I am the way that I am
This is why I am the way that I am
This is why I am the way that I am
This is why I am the way that I am

You know I'm carrying with me
Over twenty years of pity
My whole personality
Was formed by others, not me
When I look back on my life
One that's always filled with strife
I rode down a bad course
Nobody's fault but yours

My step always threw me right down the stairs
So forgive me when I do the same thing to you
I know it must seem like your daddy never cares
But if you knew what I've been through
You'd do the same thing too

Well I can't make a move
Without draggin' all my baggage
My father always cussed
So forgive me for my language
Please excuse me for yelling
Pardom me for telling you to stop
Selling to me your God in Heaven

This is why I am the way that I am
This is why I am the way that I am
If I can keep this up for the rest of my days
I may never have to take responsibility
For my ways

Matthew 7:5

5. PHANTOM LIMB

The case of George Dedlow
Double amputee, one of 500,000
Civil War casualties
Suffered a phenomenon so bizarre
Even the doctors looked on from afar

How can you feel a leg that isn't even there?
From cold to burning heat
To pain beyond compare
Clinically know as phantom limb
So hard to treat, prognosis dim

Brachial plexus avulsion
They told you cycles were dangerous
Nerves ripped from the spinal cord
You certainly need the Lord

But just like the feeling in your arm that is gone
You've severed communication with Him all along
Even though you know it's totally wrong
Spiritual death kicks off it's swan song

Don't throw away the years He gives you
By hardening your heart within you
And if you cut off both your own legs
And you have sworn just to ignore Him
The phantom limb will start to haunt you
He wants to bring you back, revive you

Jer 24:6-7

6. BATS

Bats, bats, bats
You think they'll hit you but they won't
You think they nest in your hair
But they don't

[chorus]
Bats, bats, bats
You think that feathers is what they got
You think they are a bird, but they are not
The old adage "blind as a bat"

The truth is they can see
But not as good as you and me
Bats, bats, bats

I used to think that God was always serious
And I could walk the fence

I must have been delirious
Iwonder if He laughs
I guess that I'm just curious

[Chorus]
Bats, bats (Mexican FreeTail Bats)
The God Jehovah is not feathers, wood, or stone
The word became flesh
And ascended to the throne

He walked he Earth like you and me
And dwelling in our hearts is where He wants to be
And dwelling in our hearts is where He wants to be

[Chorus]
Bats, bats (Mexican Free Tail Bats)

7. HEADS I WIN, TAILS YOU LOSE

There's a place in the human soul
Where we want to be in charge of everything
Take control
It's not easy to lose the reigns
When we feel that we're responsible for all our gains

But the fact of the matter is
That the credit is only His
And the reason you take a breath
Is the one who has conquered death
Is a God of amazing grace
Who is willing to plead your case

Do you remember there was a day
When you gave your life, you all to Him in every way
But your love for Him soon grew cold
And you found yourself conforming to the world's mold

But the fact of the matter is
That the credit is only His
And the reason you take a breath
Is the one who has conquered death
Is a God of amazing grace
Who is willing to plead your case

When you think that you know best
And you think that you can ride
The wave out on the crest
Then the things that He said are mute
And the promises He made to you
You give the boot

By the time you think it over now
Things have gotten worse somehow
If you'd only given Him your all
He'd have caught you long before the fall
And you're looking at what could've been
It's tails you lose and heads I win

And you're looking at what might have been
It's tails you lose and heads I win!

Psalm 139:23-24

8. TWILIGHT

When Father Time begins to run out on you
There's a place we take you to
"Just a burden now", I heard them say
I know I'm just in the way
You watch the car as they drive slowly away
Their guilt will hang on them for just today

All alone you sit, the phone never rings
Each day new sorrow brings
And the holidays, they come and they go
But there's one thing that I know

Even though my family counts me for dead
I never see them anyway
My life to God is not a worthless mistake
He's right there with me in my endless heartache

Can you look away from all this pain
Or do you think it isn't there
Can you look away from all this pain
Say you just don't really care

As we lock our priceless heritage away
Our kin the elderly
Do you know someone who stares at the walls
I think you know what to do

Psalm 34:18

9. IF PIGS COULD FLY

Why does God refuse to move?

If pigs could fly they'd fly away and Never grace the earth again
I wait and wait and wait and wait but Nothing good happens for me

I pray to fly but when I die my feet are Still flat on the ground
My brain is good, no legs of wood, but if You could, I think you should

He ain't standin in my way
'Cause I did nothin today
He ain't standin in my way

Your ship has crashed no sign of shore-To sit in your lifeboat-you can do no more
5 days at sea starved to the core-lifeboat Is leaking-a rip in the floor

But wait-on the horizon-land-land hoe!
Will you sit there and pray-or will you get up and row?
The next time you are quick to say "I'm just waitin' on the Lord"
Just make sure that you remember where we all have been before

All things become one

Proverbs 10:26

10. TRIVIALIZING THE MOMENTOUS, COMPLICATING THE OBVIOUS

A difference of opinion - we agree to disagree
But you have stopped talking with me - now your talking at me

Pre-trib, post-trib, five point, no point, heal me, slay me, free will, no will
As our common ground leans to the moribund

delighted - devastated - dilapidated
impressive - insightful - insane
enchanted - enraptured - embalmed

The narrow path you're on will soon become a balence beam
And to always win the war of words is where you get your self-esteem
The message of His Word says come to me as a child
But when I mention it to you, you say His Word I've defiled

"Enough about you talking about me - why don't I talk about me for awhile"
"Yes, but the point is..."
"See here - the polemical literature states clearly that sufficiency of attrition is not enough for even the penitent confessor to overcome the antidisestablishmentarianism of one's dispensationalistic concept of theistic determinism"
"No you..."
"The loftiness of my vicissitudes precludes the fact that we simply cannot see eye to eye"
"Are you sure you're not double minded?"
He came to set the prisoner free
A message of simplicity

1 Timothy 1:3-7
