Could I have lived a lie, was nothing as it seemed

Memories of murder, my wife's screams pierce the air

Suspicion, clouds his mind, jealousy, it blinds him
The disdain for this wife, how his words abuse her

In his heart, twisted pain
Blood would spill when he'd been betrayed
In the night, I hear her scream

In the dark there's an evil force

Chapter III: shadows of memory

A trick of the light, was it all just a dream
A feeling of dread, was it evil I'd seen
Parents are gone, my mother I miss
Father took his own life, but something amiss
All these years later, my mind can conclude
That horrible memory, I know to be true

I still smell the brimstone, I hear father's cry
I rush to his chamber, can I trust my eyes
In a pool of fire, father pulled down below
Dragged by a demon, his eyes all aglow

This man of darkness, holds me in his gaze
His face shows regret, that's somehow misplaced
The flames are expelled, he's gone with a flash
Father dead on the bed, the floor covered in ash

This demon I study, I consult the clans
Where he came from, how it all began
Rumors of a man and a pact with the devil
Stories of possession that the blood would chill

A myth, a monster, so the peasants say

From village to castle, I seek my foe
Many miles I ride, always more headstones

Ahead, abandoned, an old outpost
I find the villain, I find my ghost

The battle starts, my foe is fierce
