NKM FEST Day 2

le Vendredi 11 Juin 2010, Finland, Tampere, YO-TALO

Carcadial

The second day of the NKM Festival
which took place in
Tampere, Finland. White nights, summer, weekend – a
good cause to leave home and have a couple of drinks in a club. NKM Fest had a
great line-up on Friday: Carcadial, Axegressor, Sotajumala and Profane Omen. Obviously
the audience agreed with this opinion, because that night in the club were much
more people than the previous day.

The first on the roll was Carcadial.
They were on stage in time but people were already waiting for them, hungry for
something hard and heavy. Carcadial plays fast, hard and rough music in the
veins of heavy and power metal with the clean male vocals. The sound wasn’t
very good, the band was too static even for this small stage and actually the
next day I remembered only the bald and bold vocalist Pasi due to his outlook
and pains of entertaining the audience. It’s true that he did his best, but
it’s not enough for the band’s success. Carcadial has a fairly good music and a
number of fans, but it’s not enough for the band’s success. Both the music and
the show were not enough catchy and bright. It was… common and usual, I’d say. Nevertheless
it was the good start for the night.

Axegressor

The second band was AxeGressor. It’s
a nice thrash metal from
Turku (Finland). The band consists of four serious
self-confident and skilled musicians (vocalist in the sunglasses, drummer,
guitarist and bass-player) who are on stage for some years, although AxeGressor
is only four years old band. Here we had much better sound and the brutal
quality music in the best traditions of the thrash metal – no need to say more.
It was the excellent choice for the festival: a lot of drive, mosh and energy
during the whole performance.

Sotajumala

I’d say that Friday Day 2 had two
headliners, and one of them was the great Finnish death metal band Sotajumala
(it means “the god of war” in Finnish). This band was founded back in 1998 and
has a number of albums. And they are perfect live. Sotajumala is aggressive as
death metal band should be, they have this special atmosphere that catches the
listener, enthrals and doesn’t let to leave the hall until the end of the show.
And yes, it was the real show. Sotajumala has the great charisma. These
musicians are beautiful on stage, if you understand what I mean; they are the
real actors and professionals. Once again I can say “thanks” to the promoters
of the festival who have invited all these bands.

Profane Omen

One more special “thanks” goes for
the next band. Profane Omen from
Lahti (Fin) is definitely one of the best
live bands I’ve ever seen. And I would never miss their gig if I am in the same
city at the time. Unfortunately many had the different opinion, and after
Sotajumala’s performance part of the people left the club. Maybe it was already
late night; maybe they were only Sotajumala’s fans. But they missed this
terrific show.

We had to wait for Profane Omen’s
performance some time, because they have changed all the equipments on stage
and hang up the background scenery. The band also had own special transparent
drum set with highlighting.

How I could describe Profane Omen on
stage… It’s the pure energy. They play a kind of mix of hardcore and metal, fast
and aggressive and powerful music. They also have a very strong and interesting
philosophy, their music and lyrics are full of ideas, meanings and senses. These
guys are informal and natural on stage. They give theirselves up to the stream
of metal music entirely. It enthralls. They bend the audience to their will.
They make them shout and mosh, move and believe. Profane Omen is the work of
art, I’d say. Check them out without fail.

Friday June 11 without doubts was
the best day of the festival. Hope we’ll have more such days in lives! Or to be
more exact – nights.
