Biographie : Wizards (BRA)

Wizards were formed back in 1992 in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. After a few gigs and a couple of demo tapes, the band caught a lot of attention within the local Brazilian heavy metal scene and also the Japanese label JVC/Victor.

Such label was responsible for the release of the band's debut album, Wizards, in 1995. The album achieved big success in Japan, getting to the eighth position in the local rock chart, ahead of much bigger names. The group was also considered the brightest hope of the year by the Japanese press and fans.

The second album, Sounds Of Life, was released one year later. It was welcomed with rave reviews and the big success made the band able to endure a huge tour throughout Brazil. Promise Of Love, a tune out of the album, was one of the most played songs of the year in Mix FM, a very important radio station in São Paulo. The album was released by Roadrunner Records in Brazil and again by JVC/Victor in Japan. At this time, Wizards was already considered one of the most exciting groups of the Brazilian metal scene and they played alongside many international acts touring locally, such as Savatage, Stratovarius, Gamma Ray and Paul Di'Anno's Battlezone. In each of these occasions the band's performance was unanimously hyped by the audiences.

Beyond the Sight, Wizards' third full length, saw the light of the day in 1998. Unfortunately, this record enjoyed a very poor promotion and therefore the response was not as overwhelming as in the earlier efforts. This led to a halt in the activities of the band, which lasted until very recently. Nevertheless, Arise Records now presents in Europe Wizards's fourth record, The Kingdom. The CD comprises 10 fantastic tunes that combine pure and true heavy metal with miraculous melodies and deep feelings. The album artwork was developed by J. A. Torquato, renowned for his works with the likes of Angra, Viper, Di'Anno and others. The Kingdom is set to be released in April 2002 and will surely bring Wizards back to the first ranks of Brazilian heavy metal bands.
