Recurrence was formed in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2008 with the goal of making catchy melodic death metal and making every live show memorable. Founding member Alex “The Antidote” Bastiat explained to Blastzone Online, that “the strategy is to make amazing melodic death metal that is taken seriously, but on stage just have a crazy time and entertain the fans and try to give them something unique they wouldn’t expect from a band with “serious” music.”

While the band pulls influence from melodic death metal bands such as Dark Tranquillity, Soilwork, The Duskfall, and Amon Amarth, they also incorporate other hardcore and metalcore influences such as Bury Your Dead, Bleeding Through, and God Forbid. Their sound combines a little bit of that ‘something for everyone’ feeling, and includes beautiful melodic guitar riffs, the heaviest of heavy breakdowns, chilling piano and choirs, ‘disco’ synths and folk instruments, and to top it off, a range of vicious vocals from death metal gutturals, hardcore shouting, and even cleanly sung male and female vocals. All of this in turn results in some of the heaviest, happiest, evilest, most melodic metal out there right now.

Starting in 2011 with their own local metal festival called MadFest, Recurrence has played over 30 shows and counting in major neighboring cities like Cleveland, Columbus, and Louisville and opening for headliners and personal inspirations such as Evergrey, Korpiklaani, Sabaton, Nightrage, Spineshank, Moonsorrow, Týr, and The Bunny The Bear.

Recurrence has brought an energy and stage show that not very many bands match. With everything from dressing up in costumes, “Doing The Bernie” during their breakdowns, jumping on each others backs and into the crowd, humorous entrance music, and even having a blow up doll fill in for them on drums, old fans and new fans are always entertained when they witness the incredible music and excitingly fun stage antics.

After accomplishing a self-funded demo and EP in their earlier years, Recurrence is now setting out to venture into the forefront of melodic death metal, but this time, with a sight set much further than the Midwestern United States. With their upcoming debut album "The Exit" mixed and mastered by JF Dagenais (Kataklysm) in JFD Studios, the rest of the world will be able to hear crowd favorites such as “The 900” and “Equilibrium” that always had the audience jumping and moshing along with them.

“Every song, even every riff, should tell a story,” explains The Antidote, “but most importantly, people should want to listen to it again and again and really connect with the music”. Stay tuned as Recurrence prepares to leave a mark on the history of melodic death metal
