OBNOXIOUS (OBNO pour faire court) a plus ou moins pour origine la réunion de deux demi groupes. De leur côté, Lény (Guit./chant) et Jul (Batterie) s'étaient retrouvés à jouer en duo après une expérience un peu foirée avec leur précédent groupe. Mat (Guit./chant) stagnait aussi de son côté après de nombreuses tentatives infructueuses avec ses potes de toujours. Le lien de parenté entre Mat & Jul permettra d'effectuer la jonction en 2000 et voilà la formation d'AERENDEL à 3 qui peut être considéré comme la première incarnation d'OBNO. Etant donné l'enthousiasme généré par ce rapprochement, plusieurs titres seront composés rapidement et même enregistrés à l'arrache (merci au passage à Cedric et Peter) chez Lény (merci aussi à sa famille pour avoir supporté le vacarme), faute de local de répet digne de ce nom. Ces titres, dont certains ont survécu, ont alors servi à présenter AERENDEL (ndr : quel nom de merde on a bien fait de changer…), futur OBNO, à 2-3 chanteurs qui ne faisaient pas l'affaire (mais c'était « no big deal » ha ha ! – blague interne) jusqu'à ce que Mat contacte Franck (Chant donc…) avec lequel il avait longtemps joué. Ce vieux brisquard un moment rangé du Metal a alors décidé de s'y remettre pour devenir le gueulard principal (et leader en carton) du futur OBNO.


En 2001, départ de la piaule à Lény pour un vrai (???) local -un garage- (moyen merci à Bruno …) suivi d'une interruption de 6 mois due à une expatriation temporaire qui aura entre autre intérêt de faire découvrir au groupe le mot OBNOXIOUS qui sera adopté comme nouveau nom. En 2002, une autre expatriation sera l'occasion pour les autres de chercher (et trouver !!!) un VRAI local. Arrivée au château de St Anin à Solaize (sud-est de Lyon) qui verra le groupe s'orienter vers un style plus violent et moins mélodique. Cependant, une pièce importante manquait à l'édifice (of pioute …) : un bassiste. C'est là que David (Basse … bien vu) entre en jeu en 2002 par le biais d'une annonce et rejoint OBNO après avoir dévasté Bourgoin et sa région avec sa précédente formation. Une fois au complet, les anciens morceaux évoluèrent et une nouvelle dynamique de composition s'engagea (pas trop rapide quand même) jusqu'à arriver à une dizaine de titres. Parmi eux, 6 seront enregistrés par le grand Steve au STEVEMAN STUDIO (lire "notre local de répet' + le matos de Steve") pour aboutir à la première démo en 2004 : Disclosure Attempt dans un style mélange de Thrash et de Death parce que nous le valons bien !

OBNOXIOUS (a.k.a. OBNO) is more or less the gathering of two « half bands ». Lény (Guit./Vocals) and Jul (Drums) were playing together as a duo after a crappy experience with their previous band. Mat (Guit./Vocals) was also stagnating on his side after many unfruitful trials with his long time friends. As Mat and Jul are cousin and so know each other since… their birth, the fusion, was unavoidable in year 2000. This was the first incarnation of OBNO (the initial name was AERENDEL). Considering the enthusiasm generated by the first rehearsals, some songs were rapidly composed and even recorded (a very very DIY recording – thanks to Cedric and Peter) at Lény's house as no proper rehearsal place was available (thanks to his family for letting us make so much noise). Those titles (some of them are still played by OBNO) were used to present AERENDEL (what a shity name - that was a good idea to change…) to 2 or 3 vocalists that didn't fit for the job (but that was “no big deal” – private joke…) until Mat called Franck (Vocals of course…) with who he had played for a while. This old rogue, who stayed away from Metal for a moment decided to shatter his throat again and to become the lead screamer (and fake leader…) of the band.

In 2001, departure from Lény's house for a real (???) rehearsal place –a garage- (not so many thanks to Bruno). This was followed by a 6 month interruption due to a temporary expatriation which had, between other interests, to release to the ears of the band the word OBNOXIOUS immediately adopted as new name. In 2002, another student expatriation was the occasion for other band mates to search (and find!!!) a REAL rehearsal place. The arrival at St Anin Castle (south east of Lyon, FRANCE) will correspond to a slight twist in the music of the band to a more aggressive and less melodic style. However, there was still an important piece of the puzzle to find : a bass player. Enter David (Bass… as expected!) in 2002 who will join OBNO after having slaughtered Bourgoin (between Lyon and Grenoble) and its surroundings with his previous bands.

Once complete, the old songs evolved and a new writing process started (not too fast) until around ten songs were fulfilled. 6 were recorded by the great Steve at STEVEMAN STUDIOS (read “our rehearsal place + Steve material”) to lead to our first demo in 2004: Disclosure Attempt in a Thrash / Death style… because we worth it !
