Dark Opera was born in spring 2003 in Floridia (SR), Italy and was created by two old friends, Valerio Zappulla, vocals and Keyboards, from Floridia, and Andrea Iannone, drums and guitar, from Floridia, too. After about three months, other guys came in the band: Marcello Porrello, a guitar player from Solarino, and Riccardo Puglisi, a bass player from Solarino, too. Now, Valerio and the band are ready to start the process of writing, and they begin to perform live in some local festival (they play in Vittoria, Floridia, Siracusa, Priolo, Solarino and Sortino).
In June 2004 and just in three days, Dark Opera records the first six tracks cd-demo, "Pathetic Surrealism", produced by Dark Opera and recorded and mixed at "Sonoria Studio" in Scordia (CT), by Vincenzo Cavalli. On this records there are two guest: Bruno Monello (from Noise('s) Back), guitar player from Siracusa and William Voi (from Noise('s) Back, too), on clean vocals, from Floridia. After the recording sessions, Bruno and William become official members of Dark Opera.
This demo sounds gothic-power metal, with Valerio's growls on the strophes and William clean vocals on refrains.
They perform live with this line up in some local festivals, but the project Dark Opera doesn't take off, because of some troubles inside the band.
In Summer 2004, rhythm guitar player Marcello Porrello and bass player Riccardo Puglisi, give up the band and the remaining members of Dark Opera stop playing for six months, with the high risk to bring to an end the project.
In March 2005 Valerio, Andrea e William (now bass player, too) meet Umberto Ferro, a blackhearted guitar player from Siracusa who comes in the band to replace Bruno Monello (in the meantime he left the band, too...).
The four blackhearted friends start working on new songs, really symphonic black oriented, and in the summer 2005 Dark Opera becomes a five piece band with the arrival of Vittorio Veneziano, another blackhearted guitar player from Siracusa and Umberto's old friends. Now the band seems to be as stable as ever and complete.
In October 2005 Dark Opera records in just one day "Last Decadence", the second CD demo with five brand new songs, a cover, "Mother North", by Satyricon and two live songs. The CD is self produced and recorded once again at "Sonoria Studio" by Vincenzo Cavalli, but mixed by Salvatore Adorno (Siracusa) and Dark Opera in a week.
The sixteenth of December, the band performes live at "Le Torce Pub" in Catania as guest, with "Memories Of A Lost Soul", melodic death metal band from Reggio Calabria. The twenty - seventh of January 2006, Dark Opera plays live at "5/4" in Messina with "Grim Monolith", a local old black metal band, with members of Traumagain
