Chronique @ final_alert

Dimaension X is Dave Lanciani, a man with an undying passion for music (ranging from the extremes of black metal to jazz). Dave has just released his 8th album (in 5 years) online, “Ugotllathath”.

Ugotllathath shies away from what listeners have come to expect from the Lord. The drone influenced doom metal of earlier works (Leprosia Doom) has made way for an experimental approach, crossing the genre divides and challenging the notions of music as we know it, by blending jazz and black influences together, and these juxtaposing forces combine excellently to create what is only know as “Ugotllathath”

An issue that may arise for many DIMAENSION X fans, as well as those metalheads who have just begun listening, is that this album is very experimental. You aren’t going to hear the same doom metal that you’ve come to expect, and many will react negatively to this (just as happened when Manes transformed from a black metal band, to a highly experimental, avant-garde outfit). Purists need not dispair, Dave has pointed out that this is (at this stage) a one off, featuring many ideas he wanted to get out of his musical system.

The standout tracks for mine, are Yinthosth Bryson Yothugh (a piece that is heavily influenced by doom metal) and Ca'lloshana Ephauabotho Leprosia Hal-bhle which has a fairly unique sound that I haven’t really experienced before.

This is another stellar release from Dave Lanciani, and one that rates highly in the catalogue. Take a step outside your comfort zone, open your mind, and give this album a listen.
