Chronique @ dranoel

The facts do not sound very spectacular: PERISHING MANKIND play Death/Thrash Metal with a lot of melody on their third album – but many details boost this work...

• The catchiness: the band got a damn good feeling for outstanding refrains. It starts with the impelling piece Warning, the intense tune Army and the fulminant track Angel. Another Sad Day continues musically to a song on the predecessor and combines a certain easy-going swinging rhythm with a demanding build-up as well as lyrical draft. The hate song I Want deals with a person the author of the lyrics does not like at all – and besides I know why parents get warned of the explicit lyrics :) My Love Affair is a track about an egomaniac (in winking way?); afterwards, the egregious tune Lullaby is concerned about nightmares and insomnia. In this case, the song writing turns out to be eminently felicitous: a hypnotic chorus, sharp guitar chords, smart changes in measures and sentiments... a downright joy in listening! Finally, the bleak song Old Man marks a thoughtful and also powerful punch line showing anew the felicitous mixture of demand and catchiness.
• The musical concept: this release sounds homogenous despite its variability, whereby the two emotional, combined instrumental pieces (The Heritage… and …Of Perishing Mankind) at first and last place form a nice frame.
• The progressive courage for risks: an outstanding acoustic delicacy can be detected with the epic instrumental called Remember. The guitar fraction unleashes enormous variable material concerning speed, chords and moods.
• The voice: singer Holger is self-confident in every pitch, no matter if he shouts aggressively or acts in melodic manner. He adapts his voice to the emotional roller coaster ride and uses screeches, dark growls, but also felicitous clear parts. The band cares about reasonable lyrics, which deal with social criticism or painful aspects of personality.
• The musical sense: PERISHING MANKIND show up with aggressive and dynamic parts in their songs, but they also can convince with borne, silent tunes without acting in ballad-like style.

PERISHING MANKIND managed to release an overwhelming album with The Heritage. Claim, playfulness and catchiness go together perfectly during this enthusing piece of music!
