Overall great first effort!
Aberration of fate is an interesting album. Throes Of
Ire call themselves a horror doom band writing songs that feature lyrical content ranging from
Jack the
Ripper to wolves that literally massacred a town in France. The songs are a mix of almost every element of doom metal. You will hear funeral doom, death doom, even sabbath type groove riffs of traditional doom, somehow all fused together. They certainly portray a unique eeriness on Aberration Of
Fate with slow haunting passages and angry high gain infused death sections. There are orchestrated sections that work well in building atmosphere within the songs but certainly not overdone and even sparse throughout the track listing. Songs like the albums starter The
Morrigan are reminiscent of early
My Dying Bride, with fast sections and slow harmonizing guitars. The vocals are very guttural and prominent within the release as well. While the songs seem to at times lack cohesion and some seem repetitive, overall it's enough to keep the attention of an avid doom fan. For a initial release I find Aberration Of
Fate worthy of true doom fans. Fans outside the genre will have trouble catching on and may find the album harder to listen to. Overall a great first effort and I am interested in hearing what the band has to offer in the future.
