Chronique @ GandhiEgo

05 Mai 2010
South America is a vast reservoir of many fine extreme Metal bands. When it comes to Death Metal, my only concern is that most of the bands have so much capitalized on Krisiun’s success that they seem to be unable to do anything else beside constant blast beats and riffs of infernal velocity. Sure, some bands like Nephasth or The Ordher have made a name for themselves but the remainder is now labeled "Krisiun-like".

Fortunately for us, Kaoscentrica does not fall in this category and their old-school sound is a rather fresh diversion from the Brutal Death Metal thing that seems to have taken over all of this continent. I wrote old-school but it’s not necessarily 100% accurate for the production is rather modern but yet the spirit behind the music is of old-school obedience.

Kaoscentrica’s approach to music is rather interesting. Much like Scandinavian countries have take the Viking approach into their Music, Kaoscentrica, as a Chilean band, incorporates Inca imagery in theirs. The parallel with Unleashed is rather sound especially if you consider that both bands kind of display the same music. Or should I write that Kaoscentrica's music is very much Swedish in essence? I guess it's fitting as well. Add to this vocals that either mix powerful growls a la Helcaraxe and screams that pertain more to Black Metal and you get a fairly good description of the music you can find on South Hordes Arise.

Sadly, the good surprises stop here. I’ve played this CD like ten times and still I cannot really appreciate much as I should with that many listens. It's not just the ugly photoshopped cover it comes with (I’ve seen worse!) but something that has to with the music.

Did I compare this band previously to Unleashed? Yes, I did. Which unfortunately means that Kaoscentrica has nothing very much original to deliver and the overall feeling is that of a rather bland and generic Death Metal. Nothing really sticks out of this; it’s decent sometimes good but nothing to get bombastic about. And as much as I can commend the effort to try and stand out of the Krisiun clones that plague the scene in South America, there isn’t much left to rave about. Sure the vocals are the rather good part of this because as I wrote, they’re powerful and they give some truly epic feel to the songs but still songs' structures are totally unoriginal and fail to be catchy.

Obviously, if you’re into Unleashed, you may feel a bit offended by my comments but it’s me here writing and I won’t be praising a band that I don’t feel should deserve praises (be it Unleashed or Kaoscentrica). But hey, if you do like Unleashed, there’s no reason you won't enjoy Kaoscentrica.

I hope these guys find the knack for writing catchy material because this one failed to impress and this is probably what took me so long to pen it down.
