Ace of Hearts debut album, like its namesake is in fact a Monster, all puns intended. Ace Of Hearts is my new favorite band! Bar none. Absolutely brilliant, in every aspect of the word. AOH is a “super group” of sorts, featuring seasoned players from the likes of Secret Sphere, Hell In The Club, Icon and The Black Roses and Odd Dimension.
The style of this epic album is definitely hard rock/melodic metal, but infused with a ton of tasty keyboards and plenty of goth infused melodies, vocals and lyrical content. The production is HUGE! Mixed perfectly, with plenty of low end and very crisp. The performances put forth by ALL players on this album are far beyond many of today’s top tier performers/musicians. The writing is poignant, moving and I can only assume personal (the songs move me, so the players must have dumped their collective minds, bodies and souls into this effort). The musicianship is just stunning. Sing along verses, HUGE harmonies and choruses and Johnny is an amazing vocalist that has a sound all his own and accentuates the music provided him perfectly. Guitar rhythms and leads by Gianmaria must be sent by the gods of metal themselves, truly epic! With a solid foundation of bass and drums provided by Andrea and Frederico, are both tastefully played and with enough fills to appease the music geeks in us all. Lastly the keys, Wow Antonio, just wow, so perfectly played; they perfectly accentuate the driving rhythms and vocals. Smashing on all levels.
Standout songs for me are well all 9 tracks of course. But seriously, Eternal Life opens the disc and sets the standard of excellence that will follow throughout the album. Monster is in fact that, a big Monster of a hard rock tune with homage to Zac Wylde or Rich Ward in the guitar work. And Ace of Hearts does not stop pounding their beautiful goth melodic metal into your brains until the final soaring chords of The Revenge.
As a fan of music and especially very talented musicians as in Ace of Hearts, I for one am anxiously anticipating what the future will bring us and I will continually hail the effort brought forth for us to cherish that is Monster.
