(Classical) Heavy Metal Never Dies

Once more, KATL is letting more behind the 80'es sound of their first "Out of the Pit". "High Priestess" continues the line of the previous album - "Kobra & The Lotus" but brings more power and complexity on the orchestration arrangement. The same "really love of classical heavy metal" and the focus on the melodic from the previous album have to be found in "High Priestess". In fact, this is what I love at KATL: the simple-catchy vocal line supported by the classic heavy vocals of Ms Kobra Paige shows the almost "child" happiness of the band to play. Even every man (I suppose) first remark the beauty and sex-appeal of Ms Kobra, just after few seconds she started to sing he shall be enslaved by her vocals. Anyway, that was happen with me when I've first seen her at "All Metal Stars" show in Bucharest.

Nevertheless, this time, KATL go further and offer a more elaborated and better production product. The main difference consists now of the more complex orchestration: even the distinguished voice of Ms. Kobra remains the key of all the songs, so the band pays its (necessary) tribute to the front-line lady, one can see the higher level of the supporting orchestration: the guitar solos are more developed, the double-bass pedal is used in almost all the songs and happy alternates with the single-bass normal beat and more simple/melodic guitar passages are introduced along the riffs. In rest, as I said before, KATL brings to us a clear sample of the (new) traditional heavy metal, generally characterized by the twin power - melodic sound. "Willow", "Battle of Wrath", "High Priestess" and "Visionary" are the songs more characteristic in this way and similar each other in the mean time. In fact, the catchy vocal lines from "Battle of Wrath" and "Visionary" seem very familiar to me, I think I listened some similar when I was child.
"Warhouse" makes a step forward, being the most heaviest from the entire album.

The tribute to the sensibility of Heavy Metal is payed in "Soldier" and especially in "Lost in the shadows" ballad. If "Soldier" is a tribute to the everywhere soldiers who's sacrificing their life sometimes for nothing, "Lost in the shadows" is a sad and dramatic pray to the "cosmic eyes" asking for guiding the restless human soul. In this song, the voice of Ms Kobra is more dramatic and is reminding us the classic music formation of the front-liner of KATL.

Finally, I declare I enjoy listen the album's song mostly when I driving my car, even on the town traffic jam or along the motorway, I honestly cannot explain why, maybe because of this excellent mix of power and sensibility together with the special voice of ms Kobra Paige.
