Chronique @ GandhiEgo

12 Novembre 2009
Hatebomb is not your typical newcomer. Formerly known as Staro ZloAncient EvilHatebomb, mainly Ivo and Slaveiko, formed in 2003, released one demo in 2005 and finally they've just released an eponymous demo which you can listen to on their Myspace page.

They play thrashy Death Metal that makes no compromise and takes no prisoner. Don't try to hear in Hatebomb's music the new trends that make modern Death Metal sometimes so boring.

Hatebomb applies the good ol' Death Metal formulas to their songs taking us back in time in the late 80s, early 90s. That's when Death Metal was still not yet liberated from Thrash Metal roots but already mutated in a growling nightmare. Their music is very reminiscent of all stars legends like Death or Possessed even though their riffing is very much European in essence and closer to the likes of Benediction or Bolt Thrower.

I'm sure that most Death Metal aficionados have registered the resurgence of the old standards of Death Metal, even with the funniest moniker: New Wave Of Old-School Death Metal. Which in essence is self-contradictory but journalists or last.fm tag-trigger-happy retards seem to appreciate modest wordings... Obviously, I won't deny the movement that has taken place and the fact is that one now may fear that it's just going to be as trendy as hell. The exact opposite of this rejuvenation.

Let us not fear this for Hatebomb is above this. You can tell they've played this the way they've always wanted it play. Thrashy and groovy riffage in your face and mid-tempos to grind your head down. Just like bands like Cardiac Arrest or Decrepitaph, these guys play the real thing. They don't care for artificial fucked up production, they just deliver songs the bulldozer way.

There's not much that can be improved here except a better mastering that'd give the drums full power to blast your head off. Supposedly, the demo will give rise to a full-length and I know that it's something that I'd like to review myself when it eventually comes out.

This is the best that the Internet age and the globalization era may offer us. Besides the countless mediocre bands polluting Myspace, you'll find gems that need just a little polishing to shine their own incredible light to the world.

I'm glad I did volunteer for this review and I certainly wish that they will keep on their destructive path for the forthcoming years to come! Hell, Bulgaria needs a leader and they've got a natural-born one! Praises!
