Do you like listening to the new bands and their debuts? Nowadays wise listeners prefer to buy works of the experienced musicians, they know names of good sound producers and big studios and choose CDs with these names. But, maybe there’s no monopoly of the truth in these ideas. A lot of new and young bands bring us nice melodies, rocking rhythms and blowing minds ideas. Oh, the production is not that good. But is it the main?

French band Faithless Messiah (what a name!) is one of such bands – young, with the first album “Ghosts”. Faithless Messiah is nonsense, as you may think, but this word-combination reflects the whole conception of the band. Actually, conception is the most interesting here, because the music is quite usual and common. Well, about the conception first.

The band obviously cares a lot about their ideas, as they have sent the description with the CD. “The lack of purpose in our individual lives”, “unstoppable routine”, “no other goal than civilisation’s own evolution” and so on. This French band is our new messiah who doesn’t trust in people and civilisation as it is. Messiah who tells us that there’s no sense in our future and actions, there’s neither sense nor purpose of our existence. Is it so? Have you ever thought about such things? It’s a thorny subject.

At the same time, the lyrics of “Ghosts” are often ordinary and unremarkable. Many other bands have already asked those questions and said those phrases about freedom, point of living, live and die, day after day, time has come… It’s boring. Faithless Messiah could express its ideas in a better way.
And the music and the vocals don’t make it more interesting. “Ghosts” consists of 8 songs and starts with 2-minutes long instrumental piece which presents the style of the band – some kind of thrash metal, fast, crushing wall of guitar riffs and drumming but with its portion of melodies and solos. Another instrumental song is in the middle of the album – “Let It Burn” is atmospheric and philosophical melodic calm piece… unfortunately with indistinct ending. The vocal is harsh and stylish. In some opinions it definitely will be too boring and monotonous, maybe some variety would colour these lines, and some clean voice sometimes. But at least we can clearly hear and understand the lyrics. Faithless Messiah sure has a number of interesting melodies, breaks, guitar riffs. But it’s not enough when there are just such moments and between them – quite usual filling, solid but not catchy riffs and solos. You will hardly remember anything after the album’s end. Just a feeling of massive, powerful, sad and dark music will remain. No doubts that in prospects Faithless Messiah can have a bigger (much bigger!) success if the musicians will lessen those common parts and let just really catchy tunes rule the songs.

“Ghosts” is an atmospheric release that shows very promising band with interesting ideas. Faithless Messiah can enrich your collection and your world view.
