Chronique @ Djordje_Centurion

08 Août 2009
Motori album-released in 1983 was a tough one to follow, but Jagode managed it incredibly well. That album had huge hits such as Motori, Sejla and it was very well recieved by both fans and critics. The band knew that they had to produce something special to move another step forward. In september of 1983 they went to Bad Homburg-Germany to write and record their forthcoming album. Theo Werdin was chosen to produce the album and he managed to cope with it fantasticaly. The production standards were absolutely stunning for Yugoslavian rock in those days. The line-up that recorded Carobnjaci was-Alen Islamovic-bass and vocals,Sead Zele Lipovaca-Lead and rhythm guitar and Nasko Budimlic-drums.The first track on the record is Nazovi me. Its a great way to open the album. Its a classic metal song with catchy melodies and hard rock riffs. Great performance from Islamovic whose voice totaly supports the sound of Zeles guitar. The second track is Morrison uvod which is the intro to the next song called Morrison. Its a guitar solo by Zele Lipovaca which is in the first moments very explosive and energetic, but then it takes the listener down and leads to the song called Morrison, which is another great track that starts and finishes with Alens screams. Terrific solo by Zele which shows us his tapping abillities. Lyrics are about the Doors singer Jim Morrison. The next song on the album is Djavoli grad which is also full of Alens screams. There is a great guitar riff in this song and very solid drumming of Nasko Budimlic is supporting a lot of bottom to it as well as Alens fluid bass work. Another great solo from Lipovaca. The title track, probably the best on the album, starts with a very simple guitar riff that leads us to the verse where Alen shows us all of the secrets of his phenomenal voice. The chorus is very catchy and rememerable. Lyrics are about wizards as our childhood heroes. The song is full of sound effects like the wind blowing, the church bell ringing and thunderstorm in the beggining as well as the evil laughs and squealings at the end. Svi nisu kao ja is a classic ex-yu rock ballad, very melodic but a bit cheesy. Its interesting to hear Alen singing in this style for the first time, which he will later develop in Bijelo Dugme. This leads us to my favourite track on the album called Pepeljuga. The drums, as well as the bass and guitar of course, are creating a smooth groove that makes your body dance, even if you did not intend it! Haha! The singing is also very dramatic and rhythmic. The chorus is also very melodic. Lyrical theme is the story of Cinderella. The next song is is Sama si. A truly great track that pin-points Zeles phenomenal guitar work. Simple, but great drumming from Budilnic. Both verse and chorus are very memorable. That leads to the metal hymn-Metalni radnici. One of the best metal songs that were produced on the teritory of ex Yugoslavia. Great groove, very catchy bridge as well as the chorus. One of the Jagodes finest! The last song on this fantastic record did not follow up the qualities of other songs on it, but it certainly is not a bad track. Its an average one, but i would certainly prefer some other track to finish this monstruous album. After this album Jagode confirmed once again that they are one of the best Heavy metal bands of that time and confirmed their status as one of the most popular bands in Yugoslavia. After this record they have released another album called Vatra and had broken to England with their international career finishing in one of the Londons finest rock clubs-Marquee.
