Chronique @ Dieded

You wont find a single band quite like this.

Janus id a band I've always had a warm place in my angsty heart. A band from Chicago that took traction not too long after their release of the "debut" album Red Right Return. What's (unfortunately) not known is that they had a 9 track album individually distributed (at shows most likely) professionally mixed and everything. Armor, their true debut album, has a lot to offer. This album features 9 tracks of energy and insanely catchy songs. you wont find many bands like this. To put it as simple as possible, the sound of this album is a hard rock mixed with chilling high pitch screeches with bumping riffs, along with very emotional clean singing and guitar. i cant find myself skipping any songs on it. some may try to claim that its a chevelle mirror- as they did later actually tour with them. i completely disagree. the sound of this albm is completely its own thing. as i said before, this album has screeches- not screams- screeches. the Chino Moreno type. they do the album a big favor. and the clean vocals basically give the band all its originality. not to shade the guitar work and the groovy drums.

Some stand out tracks on here are the energy-filled "glue factory" and the dark "pick your prize". not to mention the emotional "severen". glue factory is a very explosive song. there's no reason not to move to it with its hypnotically simple main riff. the guitarist, Mike Tyranski, is really good at making slightly complicated riffs that really work for its dark half alt rock half metal sound to it and it really shows especially in severen. the lyrics range from subjects on personal struggles to taking power and control contrast to a once shallow life. told in subtle poetic ways, the lyrics can really stick with you and they become songs you can listen to in low points in your life. I've noticed they also use a very mechanical meaning to things. using terms of car accidents and broken machinery to portray the loss of control on situations.

If you are already a fan of the once was Janus, miss them, and wanna hear a little more, i definitely recommend it. if its your first janus album, then still, i thing its an excellent into to what power they have in store for later albums
