Chronique @ Tepponaattori

20 Avril 2011

Close to perfect.

What we have here is another melodic death/black metal band from Finland. Yay, haven't heard of that before. But no, this is something different. These guys sure know what they want to do and how they’re going to do it.

When you see the cover of this album, it’s not just some cheap thing that many other bands have done before, but it’s more of an omen. The name of this release pretty much tells you what you’re in for: soul crushing music that doesn’t take prisoners. Right from the start you notice the drumming, my god the drumming. I don’t know what he takes before he goes behind his kit, but it must be strong because it sounds more of a machine gun than a human being. Guitars are good also with aggressive sound in them and some solos thrown here and there, not ruining it though.

But once you get over the drumming, comes our next psycho: the vocalist named... well, Psycho (Yes, I know I’ll hit myself after this). But this guy really lives to that name with he’s awesome deep growls and really high pitched screams. And guess what, there is even a keyboard in here, but it’s not very high out in the mixing, making a very good background to the rest of the music. All of these instruments fit in the music really well and throw in some lyrics about apocalypse and what you have in your hands is ‘Anthems of Annihilation’.

Overall, this is really good album and a huge step up from their first one. Recommended tracks: Solution Called War, Awakening of a Discordant Machine, Obey, Cut From Gaia, The Final Framework, Chaos Archetype.
