Crónica @ giganticbrain

Kunsthall has finally started to release Paysage d'Hiver albums on A5 format, and the albums Die Festung, Schattengang, and Paysage d'Hiver were the first to be released as this. So Paysage d'Hiver is one of the bands more popular albums, and for good reason. It encompasses so of black metals best qualities: depressive and distorted riffs, wretched vocals, kick-ass acoustic parts, and ambiance. The albums starts out a little rough, and almost discouraged me to not listen to it the whole way through, but I pushed past it, and the roughness quickly dissolved.

The song Welt aus Eis might have one of the best acoustic parts ever written. Although its probably one of the simplest, it sounds the best that I've ever heard, and makes a great interlude to the song. It sounds almost Egyptian, which is not a sound that Paysage d'Hiver covers too often (he likes to stick with the winter thing). It was a very beautiful addition to the song, and I wish I heard that kind of stuff more often.

The last track Der Weg is a very depressive one, with the riffs and layered acoustic part. It gave me a time to think about life, winter, death, and anything else I haven't thought about in depth like that, and I'm sure it'll have the same effect on you too.

On a scale of one to ten on whole great this album was (1 being the worst and ten being the best) I'd give this album a six-hundred sixty six. It was really that great. Please check out the MP3's for this album.
