Meat and potatoes metal cooked well.

I've just listened to this for the 3rd time ever, even though I've owned the album since about 1999, and to be honest, it's probably about the best time to listen to it.

The first two times I heard it, it has passed me by. It's not a terrible album, but it's not earth shattering either and can fall into the realms of forgetablness, especially if you just have it on in the back ground whilst doing other things. Even though I only played it about 30 minutes ago, I still can't remember anything about it. Theres no solid rhythms or guitar solos or any particular melody to remember, but for some strange reason this 3rd time I listened to it, I thought this isn't actually a bad album.

Now for something positive. It's a great slice of mid 90's black metal with some folk effects thrown in, and it's these folksy bits that stop it being dull.
They play some acoustic guitars that you'd find in an early Opeth or Satyricon album. We also have some flutes here and there and even splashes of medieval festival sounding music.
There's a light sprinkling of keyboards and female vocals too. The metal side of it is as I said, a bit forgetable, but the production is good, and the playing ability is decent, they just needed to of thrown in some memorable moments.

Listen to it and take note of it as it's playing, and just remember it was done in the mid 90's, and it'll be quite an enjoyable album.
