Biography : Shadow's Veil

In the fall of the year 2000 Jeroen Jochems (vocals + rhythm guitar and in that time member from StigmateM, a metalband from Zoersel) started to play some metal in the basement of his nephew Stefaan De Beckker (drums) in Antwerp, who had just bought himself a brand new drumset. It was still an early beginning, but when the brothers Jan Bergmans (lead guitar + additional vocals) and Steven Bergmans (bassguitar and ex- StigmateM) joined us at the beginning of 2001 and we began to rehearse more frequently, we realised we had formed a metalband. At the same time we found in the garage from the brothers Bergmans a suitable rehearsal-room, which made Oelegem (gratitudes for 'de Pierre' and Hilde!) our home base.

We decided to search for a bandname and "Shadow's Veil" became reality. The first months we still engaged ourselves with cover-songs from different metalbands (we still like to play covers nowadays), but in march 2001 we finished our own first song 'The Veil'. When we finished 'Collapse of humanity' a month later, the style of Shadow's Veil was gradually formed. Though we don't play powermetal ourselves, the guitars and keys are strongly influenced by some symfonic powermetal bands. But our style contains of course elements of melodic black/deathmetal bands too. Each founding member of the band likes more or less the same bands like Rhapsody, Children of Bodom, Finntroll, Ensiferum, Thyrfing, Turisas, … If we have to describe our style of metal, you have to imagine a sort of mixture between these mentioned bands, but within the current describing-terms we would call it melodic black 'Shadow'metal (with a Viking touch, a battle touch, a folk touch, …). At the end of april 2001 Liesbet Claeys (flute) joined us.

After 8 months of rehearsing, we could perform for the first time on stage in St.-Antonius Zoersel and the shows after that took place in the surroundings of Zoersel. February 2002 we got the chance to record our first ccdemo 'Cast A Shadow' at the 'Trax studio' in Ghent. It contained 3 tracks and 2 bonus tracks. After that ccdemo we played much more shows, also in other parts of Flanders than Zoersel. Due to differences in the direction our style was moving to, we decided to stop using flute and Liesbet left the band June 2003. After much rehearsal, more liveshows and the birth of new songs, the time was there to record a new cdemo. Recordings took place February 2004 untill July at the home of Steven and Jan. Now September 2004 the cdemo is finished, listening to the name "Shadow Lands" and containing 7 tracks (3 old and 4 new ones). We also decided to part ways with Steven, because he's occupied with other missions than Shadow's Veil, though he will be involved in doing the live-mixing if he's present at our live-shows. We soon found a new bassplayer in the person of Hans Van Gaeveren (Horny Moses).

With the new cdemo available at our upcoming shows we are ready to hit the road again and conquering unconquered wastelands…beware of the hunting shadow !
