Biography : Horizon (GER)

Horizon was founded in 1998 by guitar player Patrick Hemer and drummer Krissy Friedrich. The two musicians had known each other very well for a long time because they had been bandmates in the past, and after their first group (that didn't really satisfy them anyway) split up, they both chose to make a living as studio musicians and hired guns, knowing that one day they would put a new band together.

In 1998, Krissy, who had worked a lot as a sound engineer, had just finished building a recording studio in his house and that's when the guys decided that their time had come. They started working on the Horizon material and began recording the basics to what would become Horizon's first album. They were later joined by Bruno J. Frank (bass) and Vinnie Angelo (keyboards).

Everybody encouraged Patrick, who had sung on the demos, to fill the lead singer spot and then the team was complete.

Their first album called "The Sky's The Limit", produced by Krissy Friedrich and Patrick Hemer and recorded at Krissy's personal studio was released by Massacre Records and turned out to be a real success, gaining the band a world-wide recognition.

After such a brilliant debut, the guys chose to take some time to craft a worthy follow-up. They wrote and demoed many more songs than needed in order to keep only the best, worked hard on the sound, on the arrangements, and hired studio ace Giam Giraldi on keyboards after Vinnie Angelo left the band for "musical reasons".

Recorded and mixed once again at Krissy's Kaiserfriedrich Studio, the new album, entitled "Worlds Apart", is definitely worth the wait. Horizon's overall style is still obviously Heavy Metal - the huge sound and the walls of guitars leave no room for doubt - but they've also managed to go even further in their unique approach, incorporating very varied influences making their music rich and colourful. Big fat riffs, superb vocal harmonies, acoustic passages and the blazing fretwork of Patrick Hemer all live together, mixed with a lot of taste and mastery, proving once again that Horizon belongs to the few bands that push back the frontiers of metal music.

And we can bet that the best is yet to come...
