Biography : FatalFear

FatalFear is an iconic undeground South Korean melodic death metal / deathcore band featuring musicians from Korea, the UK and Canada. They are a hard working part of the 24crew who also started a record label Realize Records (24crew and Realize Records. ) to help other bands from Korea and other remote areas (and anywhere) to have their music released with minimal cost and artistic problems usually related to signing to a label, regardless of location or country.

Firstly, there is another (inactive?) band in Mexico with the same name, in this case, it is written with a space between the words. However, this band’s name is one word… FATALFEAR and they are from South Korea and it would seem even formed prior to the alternate band.

THIS IS ABOUT FatalFear (Fatal Fear Korea), both labelled as melodic death metal and deathcore. FatalFear has fast become one of the upcoming names in the korean metal circuit, with regular spots around the country and last year’s spot as Arch Enemy’s ONLY support…FatalFear have been dubbed "a band to keep an eye on, Korean Metal with British Vocals”.

Rising from the beach town of Busan in the Southern end of the Korean Penninsula, (divided by war and a ceasation of hostilities..but no peace treaty) FatalFear ruptured onto the Korean-metal scene almost ten years ago. Part of the Busan 24 Crew. After several line up changes they released their debut EP in 2006, "Fatal Fear - To kill a witch".

They are the hosts of the ongoing/regular “24-hours of Bullshit Fest” for extreme and metal music, as well as the more recent “Youth Anthem” fest with a more mixed line-up). The founding member is Jin-Su, the CEO/head honcho of the 24Crew, Maxmedia (entertainment/studios) and Realize Records along with vocalist Edward "DreadEd" Campbell.

In 2010 a new addition is arriving; veteran “world toured” professional sound engeneer Kirk Martin from Canada…also the new Drummer to FatalFear, (and former drummer for Canadian band "Chaos, Panic and Disorder"..amongst others and session work) now replacing Gun Wook (vocalist for "To my last breath"-a band named by FatalFear vocalist Edward "DreadEd" Campbell). Kirk has worked around the world with countless names from Slayer to Slipknot and many others, including those outside the field of metal.

Since 2006/7 the band took on Edward "DreadEd" Campbell, a British metal “veteran” and Ex-Vocalist for manchester band Severed Fate, for guitar. Later to be replaced with Min-Yong. He later returned in 2007/8 for vocal duties, following the departure of singer Wan-U..who now fronts the Busan city Hardcore Band "Gwamegi"[9][10]. Then in 2009, the band released their latest EP, Apocalyptic Crusade. The tracks layer vocalist Ed’s earth-shattering snarls with blazing guitars, booming drums and biting guitar harmonies and solos to generate an effort bursting at the seams with sludgy anthems. With standout tracks like “White c Virus”, “Apocalyptic Crusade” and “Hopeless” They have a good balance of Heavy and Melodic riffage with a positive deficit of melodic vocals and a constant Deathcore groove throughout.

FatalFear have already released music internationally and toured throughout South Korea. Even playing as Arch Enemy’s only support on the Seoul, Korea date for the Asian leg of their "The Root of All Evil" tour in October 2009.

In 2010 the band have their sights set to begin to move out through Japan, Asia and into Europe. Having already released tracks on the UK-based Microblast compilation in 2009. They are set to finish a recording now in early 2010 to be released around Summer via their label - Realize Records (Korea).

"White cVirus"
Play sound
A track from the bands 2 EPs, Apocalyptic Crusade and "Self titled", Fatal Fear. As released on Metal Hammer's, Planet Metal CD in April 2010. Free with Issue 203. (NOTE -If the sound is distorted - press pause and for some reason it will continue to play clear) (According to the Vocalist Ed - Edward "DreadEd" Campbell, this song talks about "our present state of being, literally feeding off each other and the violence and greed spreading out across the world. Like a virus, removing the colour and vibrance of the Human contition and reformatting the tapestry of cultures into a blank, grey-white sheet. While the zombified connotations refer to the apparent apathy and ignorance of the masses...although, perhaps there is still hope".)

They have also recently been featured in the April 2010 issue of Metal Hammer magazine and on the cover cd “Planet Metal”[11]…as well as having been featured (alongside a few label mates) on the UK based Microblast 2 Compilation.

Vocalist Ed said "We were told by a well known musician If we continue writing the spine-tingling classics as we have, we(Fatal Fear) can count on loads of future success..but I will leave names out so we dont name drop!"

He also said “As far as being a Brit in an all-Korean band…It’s great! I really think it’s awesome to see how far metal can travel, how many boundaries and cultural differences it can surpass.

It’s a true taste of freedom and expression, especially more so the further afield you look. Korea itself is a country divided by difference, war and politics. Both the country’s land and many families are divided. So its a very complicated place, full of great people…who love their metal and punk…especially as it contrasts so well against the typical pop music that is everywhere these days! And knowing how liberating the music can be myself…and the context out here, I can appreciate how fast the Korean alternative and underground scene is moving along!

We had recently taken a break following our show in Seoul (in October 2009) with Arch Enemy on their Tyrants of Asia tour. The break was to beging recording (still ongoing), to train up a new drummer from Canada (Kirk M.) …and for the holidays…But we are back out there, touring Korea again! (few possible dates in Japan too, but we are willing to play anywhere with anyone!)

Myself, I returned to the UK to visit family etc. for a few weeks. While the rest of the lads were busy in the studio writing and recording the basis for the rest of the forthcoming album. (and maybe the next after!) We have also been taking a bit of time to manage our own Indie record label “Realize Records” having signed artists from Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Sweden, Germany and France. Check the label’s myspace for more info (www.myspace.com/x24crewx) and website (www.realizerecords.net)”
