Biography : Cojones (CRO)

Things got started back in 2006 when four guys from Zagreb went to a rehersal space to play stoner rock, downtuning their guitars and rockin away, unaware that they would soon become a band and that the band would be known as Cojones. So they played and played until they ran out of ideas and were forced to actualy write some songs insted of just droneing away into the abyss of delayed guitar noise and cymbal bashing... and after that they played some more...

Soon after, the first ominus child was born, it was titled Prozac and much like little Damien made its first appearance June 6, 2006 at a club called Spunk where Cojones oppened for their heroes Ruiz on a night that would be rememebered as the night Cojones became a band... and after that they played some more...

Consisted of four long time friends who had been playing together in diferent bands and combinations for years, Cojones early linup was Miro on drums, Bojan on vocals and guitar, Nenad on guitar and Hrvoje aka Jelen on bass guitar.
They continued to play local gigs with some of their favourite Croatian bands such as Bastinado, Good Day to Die, Ruiz, Umor, She loves Pablo, Amygdala throughout 2006 and 2007 getting wasted, making music and playing some more...

While moving in the rehersal space with doom brothers Umor, the two bands forged an alliance that was to be called Sonic Doom Records, a label accompanied by a monthly program at the local club Mochvara which would feature stoner/doom/fuzz/drone and all other crazy rock n roll bands from Croatia and abroad.
By the end of 2007 Sonic Doom Records made its first release, a split album titled „Cojones & Umor split lp“, featuring six songs from Cojones and four from Umor, with the cover artwork done by Andro Giunio who would later continue working with the band on other releases, posters and t-shirt designs.

With the split album recorded and on the way, Jelen quit the band to go on a spiritual journey to India, later to come back and continue playing bass guitar in She loves pablo. His substitute was found only a garage away from the Cojones & Umor rehersal space, playing bass in Amygdala. Few beers later Gordan was a full member of Cojones and they were ready to continue playing some more...

March 2008 Cojones & Umor set sail for their first European tour through Austria, Germany, Belgium , Czech republic and Slovenia, promoting their split album, getting wasted, meeting great people and playing every day. The Mammoth March tour was a succes due to the fact that everyone had made it back alive and well.

Once back in Croatia it was time for Cojones to start planing the recording of their first full length album titled „Sunrise“. By that time most of the material had already been written and in May 2008 Cojones entered the studio with Ivor Plužarić. The recording process took longer than planned and the album was finally finished by April 2009 only few days before their second European tour with Umor. During that time the band continued playing gigs and won the YounGunZ festival in Slovenia, playing with a tough competition of both Croatian and Slovenian bands such as Apples of Trees, Mana, KOH, Flyspoon and many more.

With the album finished, the van full of equipment and a big box of cds, Cojones & Umor once more set sail on a fantastic voyage through the European deserts, mountains of the Alps, Skwat clubs, long nights, highway lane blues, vegan meals, smoke and no rearviewmirrors, old and dear friends, kicker spielen, beers trinken, playing music every day and all that rock n roll madness. This time also going through Switzerland, France, Holland and Italy. By the time the Sun rose, the guys were back in Croatia ready to play some more...

...this time alongside their childhood hero Nick Olivieri of Kyuss and Queens of the Stone age in Ljubljana, November 2009
