Manigance

Review @ MetalAngel

02 April 2007
Manigance is the only french band to have as a huge talent and inspiration, and it proves this us a fourth time with 'L'Ombre et la Lumière', a real chef-d'oeuvre of heavy metal. This new album is a real killer through polished and subtile compositions and really irresistible french lyrics, sung by Didier Delsaux, who gives all his heart and soul in the interpreting of those 11 marvellous tracks! The other musicians, François Merle in the lead line, but also, Daniel Pouylau, Marc Duffau, Bruno Ramos and their former keyboardist, Florian Taillandier, give the best of themselves to make this album their best effort ever and a splendid one!
Nothing has been left to chance here : though the mark of the band is here on 'L'Ombre et la Lumière', like all those guitar harmonies and this crystal sound, we can hear some new things, especially those beautiful and delicate orchestral parts on the great ballad "La Force Des Souvenirs", but also almost thrash riffs and rythmics on "Sentinelle" or on "Envahisseur", two hits on stage! The keyboards lines remain sometimes of those used by Jens Johansson (Stratovarius), it's clear on "Privilège", but they keep in the same time their own "maniganceish" identity. The band came back with 'L'Ombre et la Lumière' on the things that it has done on 'Ange Ou Démon', it means a light progressive thing, but so in your face! This little way back to the roots is nice and healthy, because man has the impression to become younger of 15 years! Manigance has known how to revive the flame of metal à la sauce Molière, and we have here, without any hesitation and doubts, the french Angra, ready to put high its flag through the world of metal! A wonderful testimony of the greatest french heavy metal band and the best album of 2006!
