Well, it fits the JBs specifically because the cover was done after the comparing of the Beatles to the JBs, so I think they were just pandering to that statement. Of course, I have no way of actually knowing.
And the Beatles did stuff they wanted to, rather than being controlled by record corporations and such. The Beatles set up the infamous guitar/bass/drumms/vocals lineup, and that's stood strong to this day... they made music popular at a time when there wasn't much else goin on for music except Blue Cheer and Elvis.

Yeah, but while bands like Frank Zappa, the Doors and Pink Floyd were actually pushing the boundaries of music and refining it into more of an art form, the Beatles seemed content with writing simple ditties meant to appeal to a broad audience. Just because they weren't being "controlled by the record companies" doesn't mean they don't follow similar ideologies to said record companies.
The Beatles barely have more substance in their music than Justin Bieber or the Jonas Brothers. Barely.

I don't understand why people say "OMG POP IS CRAP THERES NO EMOTION BEHIND IT" and then praise the Beatles out of the same mouth because, for some reason, they're a cut above the rest. Also, before anybody even brings it up, I don't give a fuck how influential they are. Influence is not synonymous with quality.

Well, although I'm not a huge Beatles fan I appreciate them, but I think John Lennon's solo music was better than the Beatles' stuff.
 
But yeah, the reason I could never fully get into the Beatles myself was because of the over simplicity of their songs. But then again, it wasn't like technicality was a huge part of music at that time. I do like the odd Beatles song though.
