We've been bitching about for a while about bands we all consider overrated and whatnot. But i'd also like to discuss the opposite: bands that didn't get a fair shake for whatever reason. Here goes...
-Eucharist: It wasn't until recently that these guys really got much credit for being one of the first melodic
Death Metal bands, and for being an excellent band in their own right.
A Velvet Creation is a flawed
Masterpiece for me; the production is absolutely atrocious (soft guitar tone, overly trebly and upfront drums), but it comes together into a blend of early, progressively minded melodic
Death Metal with some of the best riffs and harmonies i've heard on a
Death Metal record. No hype. Daniel Erlandsson originally played drums for this band, and his performance on their first album couldn't be MORE different from what he does with
Arch Enemy nowadays; really dynamic, fitting percussion throughout. Their demos are great as well.
-Pharaoh: These guys don't get that much credit among most US
Power Metal circles for some reason, which is a shame because they're by
Far one of the best USPM bands to emerge in the last decade. These guys blend influences from bands like Iron Maiden to other groups like
Crimson Glory, and they do it incredibly well while still having their identity. The riffs are meaty and powerful, the lead guitar work (on The Longest Night in particular) is highly laudable in its own right, and Tim Aymar is a fantastic vocalist, period. These guys are
Killer, definitely one for any USPM fan.
That's what I got for right now.
