No, I'm not talking about those bands that get attention outside of the metal scene. This topic is specifically dealing with the metal scene itself.

Lately, I've noticed that there's something of a "mainstream" being established in the metal scene. A sort of Unwritten Law book that says "Thou shalt love these bands (usually involving Iron Maiden, Slayer and a majority of sound-alike Black Metal bands) in order to be considered true metal". This is even further established by the whole "battle of the bands" that has erupted between major acts like Ozzy, Dio, Megadeth and Metallica, where the "metal mainstream" sentiments are towards Dio and Megadeth. Even worse, well, for me, is the idea in the metal mainstream that Black Sabbath sucks...that is, until it lost the original vocalist, that is. Basically, once it became Heaven and Hell/Iommi, then it was "good".

After All, this is a genre about rebellion! Black Sabbath rebelling against the hippies, Venom and Bathory against Iron Maiden, Metallica against hair-metal, or even a bunch of narcissistic, sociopathic Norwegian teenagers rebelling against religion.

Metal = rebellion.

And as such, there should be no rules that says you must listen to this band, or you must Hate that band, or you must sound like this, or you're not metal. People should be able to listen to whatever the fuck they want, dress however they want, like whatever bands they feel like liking and let that be that! By setting up these rules and regulations about what the metal MOB says what is or is not metal is rule-making, boundary-setting and inhibiting people from just doing what they will: true freedom.

Metal must be allowed to grow, to evolve, to change, or else it dies.

Therefore, the elitists, the founders of this metal mainstream, are the ones responsible for the death of heavy metal...is there still hope that we can save our genre and bring back the spark of Rebellion, or have we become just another clique of elitists, like all the rest?

What the fuck are you on about? People like bands, and sometimes their opinions will be loud and forceful. There's no strict guidelines on what you should and shouldn't listen to- anybody who whines about elitists on the internet is taking loudmouths' musical opinions too seriously. Just like what you want to like, man. Nobody gives a shit if you dislike Maiden, Slayer or the Norwegian second wave.

I might come back to this later, but seriously how the Hell was Venom and Bathory a Rebellion against Maiden?

Does the first post even make sense? You really misunderstand certain things in metal

vikingman369 please do some reading about history of metal because your perspective is very shallow.

Not only that, but if anything, Bathory and Venom have that same kind of "everybody loves them" status that Maiden and Slayer do.

This guy's obviously some schmuck that just got into metal last year and went on a tirade because he doesn't like the big bands as much as some people do.
