The Houston metal scene fucking sucks. Every now and then we get a good show, but the venue itself is practically empty. Unless
Slayer is coming to town, there's hardly a turn out for many bands that play here.
Now, if you want to see a
Hardcore,
Metalcore kinda show then Houston is definitely the place to be. Seems as though that's all there is to go see here. The only way to know about up and coming local metal band shows is via the stupid
Event pages on Facebook. Sometimes the bands that play hardly even promote their show which is ironic because you'd think they'd want to advertise their show so they'd have a good turn out... Almost seems as though you have to have a true, die-hard metal fan added to actually know who's playing when and where.
Recently went to Rites of
Darkness 3 in San Antonio. Bought a three day pass but due to complications I couldn't attend until the very last day. Once I got to the venue, I was glad to see that there was a decent amount of people there. For anyone who missed Rites, you missed one
Hell of a show.
San Antonio's metal scene from what I've seen is actually quite decent. There's a few good local
Black Metal and
Death Metal bands that are up and active there that promote. promote, and promote their shows and give the (small) crowd their money's worth when it comes time to preform.
