Being a few of a metal novice, I only recently came across Satyricon, and I was wanted to know who prefered The Black metal or more "radio-friendly" stuff?

Do you mean Satyricon is "radio-friendly" metal ??

Well, when I was reading some comments on the new album, some people had described the new songs as being radio-freindly, so I guess more along the lines of just heavy metal.

The 3 first album are excellent : Dark Medieval Times and The Shadowthrone are Pagan / medieval black metal with norwegian lyrics.

Their absolute jewell is the third album Nemesis Divina (1996), melodic but true black metal with Misanthropic references and odes to the nature.

Rebel Extravaganza is more direct and cold.

Volcano and Diabolical Now are more CD's with rock'n'roll influence's stuff and to me are similar to Darkthrone's F.O.A.D. (last album) but with less energie and credibility.

Satyricon playing Heavy metal?0  I don't think so.

Excellent analysis Beergrinder; Your point of vue is fuckin great.
But i do ask my fuckin self if ther insn't a misundesrtood.
You're talking about "credibility". Ok
But Why do you think that the last stuff of Satyricon are less credible than the one of Darkthrone?
Is it because their music, since Volcano is more accesssible than the one of Dakthrone since... Plaguewilder  or Hate Them?
Personnaly, i'm not sure that Satyricon are bollocks suckers. Their influence, heavy as Darkthrone  certainly are more  rock'n roll and  pop  than Darkthrone (rock and heavy  but more  Doom, hardcore, etc.) and they put it in their music.
But can we say that listennig Rock or pop made of you a bollocks sucker ? That's the question !

I must say I love Volcano and Now, Diabolical even more than Rebel Extravaganza or Nemesis Divina. The new albums have more energy than the OLD ones. In my opinion, the OLD album's energy was created by being musically fast and confusing. Now, on the newer ones, the music is steady and rocks, and they havy to work with lyrics/rhythm changes/riffs better to create this energy. I think this is musically better.
