I figured if there is a Gore lyrics thread, there might as well be a satanist lyrics thread.

Ok, I know Ive have had a Negative view on satanism but I finnally watched the Once Upon a Time In Norway documentary and I kinda have a different view on it. Now, I'm starting to see the other side and I have to say they did give a pretty good argument. I now understand why.

I also think that this is another great way to support such an Extreme genre of metal. Also, unlike Brutal Death Metal and Gore grind bands they have a little variety in lyrics as well other than just talking about Satan and how we should get our roseary beads and invert the Cross on it. Generally speaking, satanist lyrics can also refer to anti-semitism, some Pagan religion and national socialist ideals.

What really enticed me was what one of the members of Mayhem said and that was unlike in christianity there were set rules or commandments. But when the band member said there was a sense of Lawlessness, I like to think of it as Freedom rather than lawlessness. Although I don't follow satanism I see where people are comming from with it.

I don't have anything against the satanic lyrics, some bands can get silly, when they have Nothing to say except "HAIL SATAAAAAAAN" in all their songs. And it depends what kind of satanism they sing about, I'm okay with theistic (if they are good) and LaVeyan. But that pseudo-cliched satanism is annoying.

P.S the Inverted Cross isn't a Sign of satanism, in fact it is a christian symbol.

Indeed. It states in the Bible that St. Peter hung himself on a Inverted Cross as he felt he wasn't worthy of Jesus's presence, so it would send him to Hell. Technically, the Inverted Cross is the proper Christian cross.

And I'm fine with SataniC lyrics, as long as they are in the style of Samael (interesting) and not Gorgoroth (Hail SATAN!).

Actually St Peter turned himself in to the Romans because before Jesus was arrested, Jesus told Pete that he'd deny him 3 times before the sun rose. Peter did just that and many years after Jesus died Peter asked the Romans to crucify him in reverse to give him an extremely agonizing death, which in his mind made him right with Jesus so that he could go to heaven.

Anyway, miniradman, why didn't you like Satanic lyrics before?

Well that is the whole story, I was just stating the Inverted Crucifixion part, though I thought it sent him to Hell not Heaven. Regardless, the story isn't really important.

If you can't deal with satanic lyrics, what the fuck are you doing in metal?

personally, i think some bands really over do the whole satanism thing, but i don't mind it at all. In fact, Ragnarok's album In Nomine Sathanas is one of my favorite albums i've been listening to lately, all their songs are about Burning In Hell and kissing satan's ass and all that other good shit. Personally, Satanism was interesting to me about 3 years ago, but now i really couldn't give a goddamn about a band's beliefs (or lack thereof). if the music sounds good, i'll listen to em.

I agree, but if the Satanic lyrics in a band get very interesting (i.e.: Deathspell Omega), then I actually will read the lyrics.

yeah, i sorta prefer the "not-so-blatant Satanism" by bands like that. Alotta Black Metal bands have kinda taken up that path lately. some of the "over the top evilness" is just plain ridiculous

Well, I had the idea that satatanic lyrics was just about hailing the devil and dressing up for a costume party and going as Kiss.

Now I see the other side to it. Well... thats what i get for not being open minded enough 0
