Ktormentor says : Have you guys ever heard Demilich, Demigod or Funebre?

All of them are finnish Death Metal bands and those very first ones indeed. The real roots of what is Death Metal Finland. Only Funebre are split up today.

I think, I might try Demilich

Technical Death gets a 0 from me!

Demilich is awesome. I haven't heard the other two though. I'll check them out.

Demigod's Slumber of Sullen Eyes is basically the greatest elements of the Finndeath scene rolled into one album. Very subtle and takes time to grow on you, but it's amazing.

Here's a couple of mine:

1. Infester - To The Depths, In Degredation: This is one of the Absolute sickest, most Vile albums i've ever heard, competing with Autopsy for that crown. Despite being from Seattle this album is right out of the New York school of Death Metal - particularly Suffocation and Incantation - but unlike most Brutal death, this has an absolutely hideous, putridly Hellish atmosphere. The riffs are a mixture of Suffo-styled palm-muted and low-end tremolo riffs, alternated with these absolutely Sickening doomy riffs, occasionally punctuated by keyboards in the background. These sections absolutely crawl with their Vile feel. The production is dark and filthy, with a Nasty guitar tone (imagine Suffocation meets Carnage's first LP on general principle), the gritty bass, and excellent drums. The performances are excellent, focused and competant, yet tasteful, you're not getting a sloppy or sterile feel, and Jason Oliver's utterly indeciperable gutterals are among the sickest vocals ever.

If you're a fan of the east coast school of Death Metal, you pretty much need this album yesterday. It's a shame that alledged allegations of nazi-ism is part of what makes this album noted, (they're false, for the record) because the music is excellent.

2. Miasma - Changes: A real oddball of an Unorthodox Death Metal album, Miasma delivered a record that sounds like the bastard child of Morbid Angel and early Therion, with probably the most balls-heavy guitar tone ever... it could destroy mountains, it's that heavy. But the dudes didn't rest on that, this has some exceptional songwriting, with great riffs, excellent song developments, and a powerful instrumental performance from everybody... anachronistically, it's actually really reminiscent of Immolation's late 90's/early 00's material. Highly excellent stuff.

3. Gorement - The Ending Quest: Sweden has a ton of great, underrated DM bands and this lone LP by Gorement is up there. This takes on a noticably more doomy/midpaced feel than most Swedeath, instead opting for bludgeoning riffs and unfolding songs with a lot of really tasteful melodic ideas. It's a very good album, and it's a shame their label ripped them off so badly that they couldn't go on. Good stuff mangs.

Dude, have you ever considered doing reviews for the site? It sounds like you'd be perfect for it.
Ever listened to Szygial Miscreancy by hellwitch? One of my favorite albums of all time. Very underrated

i've actually brought over a few reviews that i've done on some other websites (another forum, Rate Your Music, and SputnikMusic... the latter being an unpleasant experience). I've a bunch more which i'll bring over at some point.

I've heard that Hellwitch album, it's definitely something of a record. I don't regard it as highly as Atheist, but it's a very good album with a lot of really superb riffs and a suprisingly intricate level of technicality. Some of their early demos are fairly good as well, though they're in more of a Thrash Metal direction. (like Atheist's demos as R.A.V.A.G.E in that regard)

Here's another set:

-The Chasm: while they've gotten a bit more notoriety recently, this band is still criminally underrated. They formed in '93 as a death/doom metal band, but with Deathcult For Eternity: The Triumph they made a juump into being one of the very best bands in death metal.

Essentially, The Chasm take liberal influence from the classic traditional/thrash/death metal bands, but weave in a paticularly unique, mystical melodic feel and a rather progressive tone to their songs. This is band that manages to write songs that range between atmospheric, melodic, and just outright heavy, and with a technical sensibility that a lot of other bands should learn from. (the band's riffwork in particular is extremely laudable with how excellent it is all around - melodic and hypnotic [almost black metal-alike in texture and feel], yet thrashy at the same time). Deathcult For Eternity is one of the greatest Death Metal albums of all time and scarily enough, the rest of their discography is almost as great.

-Seance: These guys were from Sweden, but they took a much more Floridian-based bent on the style then most of their compatriots - Deicide is a huge influence on this band (as well as pre South of Heaven Slayer). The first album is solid, straightforward Death Metal, but their second, Saltrubbed Eyes is definitely the high water mark of their career, thanks to having one of the most fittingly Hellish production jobs ever - the bass guitar pretty much overpowers the rhythm guitar at times, and the Kick drum is a fucking mighty THUMP in texture. The songwriting is great, and the vocalist is one of the best 'gutteral' singers around. Worth a look.

-Morpheus Descends: This band was one of the original forunners of the New York Death Metal school (alongside Immolation, Incantation, and Suffocation), and they put out a couple very strong albums in this style. Ritual of Infinity in particular is a Killer album, with great riffs, violent yet seamlessly shifting rhythms, and a powerhouse bass guitar performance. Chronicles of the Shadowed Ones takes a doomier approach, but it's a great release as well.

Hell yeah man, Seance is awesome, I love that band. That 2009 album of theirs: Awakening of the gods was a helluva reunion album

The Chasm is strange, but damn are they awesome. But on SoM, fuck do they have low ratings

On MA, almost every single one of their albums are above 95%.

It's this mexican guy called Fimbulwinter that rates all of thier work 1 and lowers the average score a lot. Look at any album and you'll see that he rated it 1.
