I originally posted this on MA and it was a great thread, so I'd like to see what you guys think.

Mine would be The Who's Quadrophenia. It is a concept album about the
conflict between Mods and Rockers in 1960s-70s England, as well as The
Who's most mature musical output. A film was made from the story The
Who created for this album

What really makes this album stand out is the number of motifs used -
throughout the album, several riffs/ideas span the totally
nontraditional setup of the album. Luscious interludes between rocking
songs keeps it fresh and despite the common factors, songs on this album
are more individual than any album I know. "The Real Me" has a bass
riff that overpowers any guitar work on the album, and "I Am One" uses a
recycled riff from Tommy (The Who's other concept album), but has
almost a country vibe.

Orchestration is a HUGE part of this album: it accounts for at least
half of all vocal-free sections. Oboes, bassoons, and euphoniums churn
Beneath the strings and electric guitar to great effect.

This is a must listen for anyone who appreciates any metal at all.

I'd have to say the only rock album that I'd truely give a 100% to would be Caspain's The Four Trees album. This is one of the most powerful, most beautiful post rock I've ever heard. The recording of the album is crystle clear and I can't pick up any flaws with the timing (even though its been done with somekind of computer software). Its bands like this that make me want to live each day because its just awesome. Caspain one of those artists that I can listen to when I'm happy, upset, trying to study or trying to sleep. The ambience is just truely amazing.

For those who haven't heard Caspain.

Personally I think that First And Last Always is their best but that one is damn good as well.

Non-metal albums I would give 100%:

VNV Nation - Praise the Fallen

Beautiful, Sad and simply wonderful. Who said that electronic music was emotionless? It wasn't until I had heard this album that I even bothered about the connection between music and emotion. This album contains a lot of symphonic elements, mainly string orchestras that create the perfect atmosphere.

Devil Doll - Dies Irae
I'm pretty sure Merc has talked about this album to death already so now it's my turn. This album combines symphonic, psychedelic, avant-garde, rock, metal, whatever, your mom and an amazing voice. The entire album is one song that is divided into 19 parts that all connect to each other. It's not really your typical kind of rock, it's hard to explain how it sounds like so you'll have to listen to it yourself. It's awesome that they use a real symphony orchestra instead of just samples. It's actually the Slovenian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, pretty awesome right? Oh, they're not really metal either so don't bother what Spirit of Metal says.

é Dawn: I know about First, Last... Pure musical First... is better but Floodland has a more emotional preferance because it was the album that got me into the Sisters

Totally understandable. First And Last is very nostalgic to me. When I got my first mp3-player when I was 12 there were already a couple of albums in there and one of them was First and Last and Always.

Totally Forgot to mention The Misfits' Walk Among Us. The melodies are awesome, the sustained note chord progressions are the best I know, and the vocals are perfect. The childish drum beats fit perfectly and give the album such cohesion. I only Wish it was longer. The mere 20 minutes of music isn't close to enough. In Fact, shouldn't that be classified as an EP?

I'll start with three of my favourites.

Devil Doll - Dies Irae
-I believe Dawn summed it up. No man will ever have a Voice as unnerving and demonic, while still sounding human as Mario Panciera has.

Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music I
-The greatest electronic music album ever composed. Every single part is perfectly placed. Many moments still bring me to tears. The sheer compositional Genius in this work is mindblowing.

God is An Astronaut - s/t
-Post-rock is always trying to be experimental. Different. But GIAA does not try this. They've found the perfect niche in post-rock. Making some of the most uplifting and enjoyable music I have ever heard. Echoes remains to this day one of my favourite songs.
