hey, I'm not sure if anyone has realised this but I spend time trying to get small time bands out there and adding them to the encyclopedia. Lately, there have been a massive influx of Progressive Metal bands. Weather its Progressive black or progressive death, Ive seen everything comes to the range of progressive genres everything.

For evey five bands I have found at least one of those would have a progressive element.

Has anyone noticed this?

Yes, many bands are trying to take on a progressive sound, but a lot of it is turning to pretentious crap. The "djent" fad is quite annoying and is a perfect example of this. It is progressive, but I find it boring as hell.

For progressive black, bands like Agrypnie, Winterhorde and Klabautamann are extremely unique.

Agrypnie: depressive elements, but an uplifting atmosphere. Raw but melodic.
Winterhorde: hard to describe, you'll have to listen
Klabautamann: different every album. Ambient styled (in order of albums) raw, folk and jazz black metal. Very unique.

I feel that progressive death is not quite what it used to be. Bands like Viraemia just turn into boring wankery. Some may like the overdone technical stuff, but I find it boring (with the exception of Portal, of course).

There's hardly been an influx. As long as metal's been around, there's always been a progressive counterpart to every genre. You guys just notice the more recent incarantions because you've only really been observing the modern scene.

True, but lately Ive seen and "evloution" of the genre and the paths some bands are taking progressive music down. I mean "Electrogrind Progressive Metal" bands have only poped up just recently. Correct me if I am wrong.

See, the thing with progressive music is it's CONSTANTLY evolving and changing styles, it's the nature of the music. The genre you previously mentioned is simply another step in the Evolution of music. It's just one more rung up the ladder, not really a "new wave". Remember, Death Metal is the logical progression of Thrash Metal, thrash is the progression of trad heavy metal/NWOBHM, and traditional metal is a progression of hard/blues rock. Every genre was progressing music at one point.
