Same here! They do have a few good  songs, but I think there are much better bands out there than them!

I think that bands like Metallica a popular by Default beacuse they were the "first" who did this and they were the "first" to do that. Thats why I think (brings up shield infront of face*) that Mayhem are heavily overrated. Sure it was inspirational, and maybe the guitar work and drumming was flawless. But for some reason people think it's still the best by todays standards. It's like taking a V8 car from the 1940s to a drag race against V16 2011 model Maserati. Yeah the V8 packs some punch and the roots from the maserati are from the 1940s car. But, the 1940s car is no match. (this is only an example, I know it's not factual 0 )

Old Mayhem with inclusion of De Mysteriis was great, afterwards Mayhem was quite casual, not outstanding.

I see how they could be seen as influential, but I just don't understand why everyone praises them as the greatest Death Metal band. Death's music feels stale to me. The only song I thoroughly enjoy by them is Voice of the Soul, and that isn't even death metal.

EDIT: I'm listening to their album Human right now. I think I'm starting to like them (though their first three albums were still stale to me).

Death (still can't get into them)

WHY WOULD YOU EVEN SAY THAT HOSHIT.
Pull the Plug
Spiritual Healing
Leprosy
Killing Spree
Scream Bloody Gore
Genetic Reconstruction

LISTEN TO ALL OF THOSE SONGS
And I've only heard their first 3 albums but they're just so good...

To miniradman, I'm gonna list every GREAT album by Mayhem

-De Mysteriis DOM Sathanas

SEE HOW MANY THERE ARE?!
Oh and by the way Live in Leipzig and Deathcrush were okay too but the only solid and totally fantastic album by Mayhem was DMDS. Wolf's Lair Abyss would've been awesome had it not been for the shitty-ass vocals.

So after hearing every Death album, I can say this.

Human is legendary.
Every other album is stale.

If Chuck Schuldiner was alive he'd poop on your opinion.

But I'm sure there're those that'd agree with you. I just don't see Death as stale at all. And oh, I'm pretty sure the album Individual Thought Patterns is supposed to be in the same vein as Human, so maybe you'd want to check that alubm out too.

I did. Didn't find it interesting.

Okay, what the hell. I'm seeing adverts for the 20th anniversary of Death's Human all of a sudden on this thread page. Are you seeing this?

Aaaand so have you heard every Death album?
If yes, it seems a bit weird you'd go through a whole band's discography if you thought them to be 'stale'.

Monday 27 June 2011 - 22:43:33
Yeah, I've seen those. It's what prompted me to listen to them again. I listened to their whole discography and from what I heard on every album, Human is the only one that appeals to me in any way.

Yes, it does seem odd to go through a band's discography if I find them stale, but seeing so many people call every one of their albums legendary makes me want to try to see if the albums will finally click. So it seems it only worked for Human.
