No matter what genre you're into, some imagery and lyrics are extreme. Are you in it just for the music, both? How do you explain it? Do you have limits? Give examples and name bands please. personally, I'm into goregrind and the like. I admire medical bands like Lymphatic Phlegm, Bodies Lay Broken for their total devotion to it. For the rest, it's the music I crave. I don't admire or delve into the horrors of the genre. I take it like an expression, a message, of how wrong the world has become, by showing and treating such topics like entertainment. I think it's meant to shock for a good reason.

I think that music and lyricism is intertwined, particularly if the lyrics are written by somebody who holds great sway as regards the musical direction. Admittedly, sometimes there are juxtapositions, but usually there is a similar sentiment.
I myself love both. Some bands I love for the lyricism, others for the music. My favourite bands always contain both elements though. Perhaps it's because I write both that I pay such close attention, but nonetheless, both are important to me.

I uselly don't care about lyrics. Like in Rhapsody Of Fire: On Flames of glory we hold our longswords raised against the Dragon to protect Justice from Evil powers. Sounds pretty bad but it's still good.

Please tell me English isn't their first language?

Hey finnthor, welcome to SOM.

If I took lyrics and imagery seriously, at this time I would be driking goat's Blood and praising Satan. Or climbing some mountains to find a Dragon and Kill HIM with a huge enchanted sword. Or skinning my own mother. I think art (all kinds of art, not only music) exists to be appreciated but not necessarily to be moral (yes, I'm somehow quoting Oscar Wilde).
Obviously, I'm not saying that I don't pay attention to the lyrics and imagery. But who cares if I listen to songs with dark themes, they entertain me and stimulate my imagination. And that's all. So no, I don't have limits so far.

hey all, now this is a good topic for a new member like me 0 just let me apologise  for my Bad English been working on it 0  now about the matter you ppl been talking about, i guess its pretty lame wen you like a music with poor lyrics, you ll always notice the lack of passion on it and it will be harder to create a link with the band. music is just one more concept of art, and the ultimate reason for its existence are the emotions of people who create it. now sometimes  yo cant take the message literaly or you'll find yourself doing the same things my good country fellow posted  before me 0 anyways thats what i think.

cheers!

Not wanting to become predictable at all, but...
... can I watch?

Anyway, Chakall - a big welcome to this forum, tuga bro. I suppose being here is better than watching Quem Quer Ganha... isn't it?

About the lyrics being poor or not, I guess the importance depends on the band. There are some songs I hear that I consider great specially because of the lyrics... but some songs are great because of their riffs and I just want to headbang my Head Out and don't give a $#%& at what they're saying.
