FINALLY!

I finally got around to buying this film from eBay. Got it cheap, too. Just watched the Japanese language track for the first time ever. Man, its been years since I last Saw this. Brought back some awesome memories. I remember always feeling so moved after watching this film, but not in a slit-your-wrists kinda way like with the film Grave of the Fireflies.

Last.fm: Mercenarion

 
I don't think I ever appreciated it as much as I did yesterday. Last time I watched it was a few years ago on someone's crappy laptop and it was quite pixelly. This time I Saw it in the dark, surround sound, on a big-ass TV. And I got to hear the Japanese Voice actors, finally.
I also practically got emotional by The End, and last time I Saw that movie that didn't happen

Recently I thought I'd watch this beautiful series of movies again. The art style is literally perfect and it enhances the already powerful emotion within it.

Huh, it looks cool. Is it a generic bloodbath-type thing or is it a well-thought out awesome anime movie like a Miyazaki film? How many movies are there in the series?
 
Aaaaaand speaking of Japanese film, I watched this late last night:

Anyway, it's a Japanese 'horror' film from the late 60s. I put quotations around horror because it ultimately becomes a drama of human loss and suffering and Grief with some anti-political undertones and pro-woman undercurrents as well. Extremely interesting--very experimental flow and avant-garde structure. Great cinematography that pushes a lot of envolopes in a lot of directions. The special effects are a little cheap-looking, but other than that... watch this film if you can find it! It's like being pulled reluctantly through a bad dream.

An franco-Israelic movie: Va vis et Deviens. While it may not seem like that, quite a moving piece of art

 
If I can remember, I'll try and watch this movie or the movies.
Though right now there're a Ton of movies I want to watch, some of them being really hard to track down. I found out about this movie that's supposed to be one of the best masterpieces ever called The Human Condition... and it's Nine hours. I can't find it anywhere except online for $60.

Okay, third movie seen in a row that's Japanese:

This anime movie with a screenplay by the Master Hayao Miyazaki came out in theatres here a little while ago and I finally got around to seeing it. I have to say, though it's nowhere near as good as Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke, it was pretty good and maybe even better than the original Borrowers movie, plotwise. By terms of animation and visual style it was miles ahead of the original. Arrietty was a really memorable character, and the ending of the movie was great. The music was awesome as well. I really enjoyed it--it's my first Studio Ghibli film seen in theatres.
