Damn... accidentally voted yes without realizing that why the Hell would Heavy Metal need to be in a hall of fame?

Yes, but the R&R HoF is a freaking FRAUD, so does it really matter?

Er...after all, Cannibal Corpse deserve to be on the RnR Hall of Fame.
(Whatever the Cavalera Conspiracy boy may say)

Metal aside, this RoR hall of fame looks like a joke. Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Run DMC ... ? Why would any band want to rock as hard as that?

Plus, it takes them 10 years since the founding of this wonderful cookie cutter of a marketing device to induct Alice Cooper. Also this LL Cool J guy they want to induct next, doesn't sound like a blues or country singer... so I guess not even rock bands should want to be there.

I voted yes. What Harm would come from metal being in the R&R hall of fame, really? I can in no way see why it could be construed as a bad thing.

ok errrr.... hmmmm

I voted no only because I think that metal is metal and you know how those people are, the ones that think that metal is just noise and they Hate it more than any other type of music. Metal should have its own hall of fame 0

I've been pondering on that for the last minute and I might have an answer. Putting a metal band into the Rn R hall of fame would bring no benefit to the band, since it's not really going to get more listeners, than those from the rock/metal niche. As minirad says, people will generally think it's all just noise and screaming.

On the other hand, all sorts of pop and rap artists will benefit from being put on par with legendary rock figures. There's this little marketing concept called 'creating value' which is heavily used in music/any business. You basically give people the impression that your crappy rap/pop is as valuable and brought a great contribution to culture, started a revolution in mentality etc like rock bands did. Thus conferring them a legenday status and automatically conferring a distinguished aura to those who listen to that stuff.

Moreover, by getting insipid artists to become music icons, you have more business developing opportunities: you can sell tribute albums, create special events to commemorate/honor their music etc, sell their image any way possible. Madonna is a living proof (product). Everything is just for money

Also, I predict Beyonce and Lady Gaga (if her career will last her 3-5 years of success or so) to be considered legends/icons like Madonna. Just wait 10 more years or so...

YEAH LET'S GET Burzum AND Carcass AND Autopsy AND Bathory PUT UP RIGHT NEXT TO THE BEATLES AND THE ROLLING STONES.
It just makes so much sense.

Seriously, I think some metal should be in there... like the type of metal that some people say is Hard Rock, like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, etc.
