You guys were dissapointed by the new Eluveitie? Sorry, I really enjoy acoustic music so I guess it just appealed to me more.

2. Tyr - By the light of the northern star
3. Black Sun Aeon - Darkness Walks Beside Me
4. Mastadon - Crack The Skye
5. Isis - Wavering Radiant

Worst:

1. Novembers Doom - Into Nights Reqium
2. Insomnium - Across The Dark

well, compared to eluveitie's other 2 albums, Spirit and Slania, i wasn't expecting this turn in their sound, they went from Melodic Folk/Death metal to straight out Acoustic folk, i wouldn't be so pissed if they hadn't started as a more acoustic band. i gotta say the Fleshgod Apocalypse album Oracles is one of my favorites by far too. there's been so many great releases this year it's hard for me to name em all

Like GandhiEgo I'm really surprised to see Evangelion as one of the worst albums of the year...
I mean this is clearly the best Behemoth since Demigod, and it could be easily consider as the Masterpiece of the Polish deasthers.
Well, if you still consider Behemoth for their Black Metal past, why not, but that doesn't mean that Evangelion is a bad album.

Up to now the two good surprises of '09 are french and play technical death metal:

Gorod - Process Of A New Decline
Carcariass - E-xtinction

i just think that i'm hearing more of the same from Behemoth, Ever Since their Black/Death period began, i'm not a big fan of them to begin with though, but Evangelion has really put them in the Mainstream spotlight here in America, it seems like Behemoth has become the "Metallica" of Death Metal, they've kinda become Synonomyous with underground or Extreme Metal music, i think they even have their new album being sold at Wal-Mart.... can you say Sell Out? hahaha

Mainstream or not I don't care, if the musical content is on the top.
That's a big difference with Metallica...

Exactly, one shouldn't be judging a record on how much it sells but on the music that's in it.

We all know that quality is not inversely proportional to sales or else most Black Metal bands would be considered top quality (and we all know that is actually quite the contrary because that 99% of that scene releases shitty albums).

There's still a big 'gap' between, let's say Metallica, producing one album after the other that further goes away from quality standards or at best is average, and Behemoth's latest which definitely kicks some serious ass.

And the 'sales' argument would also condemn bands like Cannibal Corpse or Deicide who sold millions of records. Yet 'Butchered At Birth', 'Tomb Of The Mutilated' or 'Legion' are cult DM classics that nobody would Dare criticize.

Let Behemoth have their 15 minutes of fame. From what I listened to, they amply deserve it.

Do you even know what a sell-out is? They haven't changed to try to gain more fans, they obviously love what they are doing, and they are still brutel as fuck. Sure, it can suck to have somebody you know who does not know shit about metal to be speaking of a band simply because they found their new album at wal-mart so now they are all in the know on metal (if that's even true about this album), but shouldn't you be happy that some actually good Death Metal is being heard by a ton of people rather then it be just those who already knew they were going to like the album?

I'll second that.

just saying that I think there has been way better relases than the new Behemoth album, i'm not saying i don't like Behemoth, i still like their old Black Metal releases like Sventevith(Storming Near The Baltic), And The Forests Dream Eternally, and Grom. and it is nice to hear decent bands getting the credit they deserve, but there are 1000's of underrated bands that are much more talented than Behemoth.
i will admit, it was cool that they covered a Master's Hammer song on their Ezkaton EP. Now THAT is one band that deserved major recognition in the Metal Community (Master's Hammer, i mean)
