Varg's ambient material isn't all that great but it doesn't detract from the fact that he's the best Black Metal artist of all time.

Urgh , a little respect for Behemoth please . I have seen them live , and they are far from Posers . Not to mention they gave me one of my best gigs ever .

I cant believe that someone that likes this :

calls Behemoth posers . Its plain idiocity

yeah Behemoth may be posers, but they make some damn good music.

if you are refering to "posers" as in people who try to be someone else, then... (pre-paring force field) I think all (a lot) of Black Metal bands are posers. But hey... make some awesome tunes. 0

Have you even seen them live ? The poor guys dont do anything else than wearing corpse paint , and the singer a helmet/mask ! Thats all ! Compared to the orgies we have seen , how can you call this posing ?
I am actually getting angry . Soon Nergal might pass away (i terribly hope not ! ) and everyone will go like "R.I.P , he was one of the greatest , our metal world will be poorer now .."
What about valueing him and his band a little while he is alive ???

well... Behemoth aren't exactly the ones who I would consider to be posing that much. But then again I don't really know much about them anyway. I do know that they wear some cool biker jackets though.

Its those weird ones who run around and Burn Down churches to tell everyone how Satanic they are, they are the real posers. Dispite that they make pretty good music, so I guess I can't complain.

Back to Behemoth, they were first Black Metal band that I got into and I still think they are good. I own most of their albums and if (when) Nergal goes, it will suck beacuse there will be no more Behemoth (unless they repace him).

But I think the biggest Black Metal posers are some of the members of  Gaahl and Gorgoroth who promote Chruch Burnings.

Also the Pig Head thing, yes Mayhem can top the charts for the biggest posers and if you come pare them to Behemoth, they just seem like your typical Death/Black metal bands.

I'm not trying to bash them, I just don't see why they need to wear corpse paint. Is it to fit in? idk? but I personaly don't like messages that Black Metal seems to try to get across, but I tend to ignore it.

Bottom line, I don't care if they are posers or not. As long as their music is good 0

I never understood what corpse paint was for anyway? why do they have it on? 0

@ firewind: I might make your day but I've read that Nergals bone marrows transplant has been succesful and his situation is stable. Now he needs a long time of recuperation and prob next year they will think of continueing the band. No hope's lost yet.

@ Miniradman: okay you seemed to missed quite some things concerning the message of BM.

First of all: the church burnings happened in the early 90'ties in Norway were not a 'test' to show satanic the musicians are. It was an ACT of revenge. Varg Vikernes stated that the stave church was moved to a holy Pagan Burial Place and the Arson was a Reaction to the arrogance of the Church ( I agree with him here, though I don't support Arson).

Secondly: Gorgoroth it self doesn't promote church Arson in its lyrics but Gaahl himself cited that he supports the burnings. Let him think that, he's prob not the only one, why should this be poser to support/ deny a certain event. Gaahl said that the arsons had the goal to wipe christianity out. I won't say if I support this or not but I Hate christianity.

Third: the fact that Mayhem uses Pig heads on stage is to strenghten their act. Their ACT is to bring a cruel, horrific show. It always has been like that, even when Dead still lived: he starved himself, buried his clothes,... just to bring a creepy as possible stage presence.

Last but certainly not least: the usage of corpse paint, fake/ real Blood, fire, satanic symbols, ... in BM are all used to shock and for the image. Corpse paint is invented by Dead of Mayhem and is self-explaining: it makes the performers appear like a corpse, near dead and decayed. Btw: most BM artist aren't satanic (or confirmed at least) at all cfr Fenriz, Vikernes, Satyr, even Gaahl isn't a satanist. They uses to things to strenghten their message and on stage performance. Some messages in BM are filosofic and hard to understand for some. Making good music is one thing but adding content to it is a much harder task. But these are the things that make BM such a great genre.

Want to know what I call poser? Guys of 20 years old who scream in a mic how bad their teen years where and how much they miss some girl. They call it ...-core. Those guys are plain talentless and focussed on money and mainstream succes. There lyrics are often hollow. After a few years nobody will mind them anymore. Black Metal wrote some serious pieces of musical history and will be remembered and followed for a long time.

Srry if I offened somebody with this post: but I had to say that last papragraph

Behemoth? Posers? I don't think so. Posers are bands who claim to be metal, or some other music genre, but actually fail at that. And Behemoth are metal. I think she just called them posers, because they are so popular, and it's common amongst "trve" metalheads to call every popular band posers.

And I agree with Panzer there, especially on that Black Metal thing. It doesn't necessarily make them posers just because they use corpse paint etc. It's all for the shock effect, and to get their message across (though sometimes it gets ridiculous). And to quote Satyr:
"Black Metal doesn't necessarily have to be all satanic as long as it's dark"

What about Hildskjalf? i got conned into buyin that album back when i first started getting into Black Metal (it was about 3 years ago i think), i fucking hated that album, i think i broke it after listening to like 3 tracks0
that was before i learned what "ambient" Black Metal meant

Wait, Hlidskjalf isn't ambient Black Metal, it's just plain ambient. And I like Hlidskalf okay. Dauoi Baldrs is the ambient album that sucks. I don't see anything terribly wrong with Hlidskjalf. The third track is awful, though.

Funny, I don't think one single band has ever done that. Varg burned Down 4 churches, but he didn't have satanic reasons for it. I'm not condoning his actions, but he is not nor has he ever been a Satanist, and he defenitely doesn't force his views on everybody.

Okay, Gaahl is... kinda stupid. He tries to be Varg Vikernes, but he fails at it. Interesting that he's gay though.

No, it's actually to represent their heritage. Back in medieval times, Norse Warriors would wear the same paint on their faces to make their enemies afraid of them in battle.
