No one that I know has ever heard of Immortal, Taake, Xasthur, Marduk, Mayhem or Burzum. They are all into Mainstream Metal and Metalcore and Deathcore. Also Post-Hardcore is huge in Australia. I have never met anyone at my school who listens to black metal. The closest they listen to is new Cradle Of Filth. But I am from the Northen part Of Australia (Queensland) I'm not sure how it is Down south.

Why would you expect anyone to know or like these bands?
They're early black metal. In otherwords, they all wanted to be underground and keep to themselves. So naturally, not many people have heard of them.

You guys shitting me? All the major second-wave bands, Xasthur and Taake are all HUGELY popular by black metal's standards. A lot of Swedish melodic BM bands (Dark Funeral, Marduk) are pretty well-known too.

The only reason you haven't met people that don't like much Black Metal is because you only really associate with people in your age range, mini. I'd imagine that most BM fans are a little older than you, and it's understandable why most people you meet like post-hardcore, it's pretty much the same for me minus a few people I've met.

Also, the best Black Metal band's gotta be Burzum. Varg has a knack for capturing a certain atmosphere in his songs that's never quite been equaled.

Agreed about the fact what you say about popularity of second wave BM bands. Even my DAD who's 50 years old and an oldschool hardrocker and not interested in BM, has heard of Mayhem and Immortal. I'm 17 and I'm not interested (read ' strongly dislike') in any Core whatever but very much interested in BM and I like the message, look and sound that BM has. I don't think age is a factor for musical choice.

Certain styles can be more liked by a certain age group but that doesn't play a great role in general I think.
Hardcore seems to be more popular among teens but Hardcore is not a trend of the last years, it exists since the eighties. So it's very likely there are older Hardcore fans. I don't think that Miniradmans age or musical choice is a reason to bash him time by time. Please show some tolerance, respect and understanding.

i agree with you totally about the age factor, more than likely, the reason why he hasn't met many (or any at all) BM fans is because it seems like alot of Black Metal fans tend to be the "loner" type, they probly aren't too easy to spot either, alot of the True Black Metal Elitist types i know really don't look the type; short hair, quiet, and hardly ever see em wearing band t-shirts. the main diffrence i see between the "kvlt" Black Metal fans and other metalheads is they really aren't the social type at all, its hard to find em, they prefer to be alone and isolated i think

Absolutly correct Demo. Looks like I have certain elements of your description of a KVLT Black Metal fan : short hair, and I barely wear metal shirt to go out or to go to school (at home i wear them very often) but I'm social and not a too quiet . Though your description is very true. I met one guy who was really into BM (don't think it was a "cultist" and he wasn't really a big talker but that's just my opinion. Once I visited a Dutch BM forum on the net and I really hated the atmosphere there, not friendly like you have here on SoM and so much moaning about that kvlt etc.

i used to be more into The Black Metal stuff, i think i've slowly progressed over to the Death Metal side lately though, the only shirts i ever wear are metal shirts0 . i listen to way more Death Metal than Black Metal now, though i still occasionally dig up some classic albums (in the Nightside Eclipse and pretty much anything but Gorgoroth). i'm usually pretty social, not at school so much, but at concerts i'm usually talking with everyone

We really have to go with several members of SoM to a metal gig one day, fun assured.

Heheh, that's me, short hair, never wearing a band shirt, not that talkative, and not much social most of the time. I'm a Kvlt Black Metaller.

And I agree with Panzejager, stop bashing miniradman because of his music taste, be more tolerant. So what if he likes -core stuff

Monday 20 December 2010 - 21:19:44
You guys DO realize I'm miniradman's age, right?

Also, Nothing I said was meant to Insult him.
...in that post anyways

Oh yeah, definantly man, if I ever move to Europe I'm lookin you guys up for sure, one of the things I have to do before I Die is go to Wacken Open Air, hopefully within the next couple years. I'd love to meet all you guys there

I'm mayor and can drive a car and finished studies. I'll go to wacken for sure. Here in Belgium there are not many good metal festivals. The Lokerse Feesten offer sice last year always a metal day: small, cosy and good metal fest. While Graspop has become retarded, here are the first bands for 2011. Check it out. Too many Metalcore bands and too less BM or thrash or Death:
