Biography
Serpent was formed 1993 by Lars Rosenberg (at the time in Entombed) and Andreas Wahl (was then a member of Concrete Sleep, later in Therion). Their first demo cassette was recorded after just a few months, after that Piotr Wawrzeniuk joined the gruesome boys to play drums and sing, plus that they found a lead guitarist in shape of Johan Lundell. Suddenly, Andreas left Serpent (of unknown reasons). He was replaced by former Suffer-guitarist, Ulf Samuelsson. The four of them recorded the bands debut album, In The Garden Of...Serpent, at the In Deep Studio in Stockholm, Sweden. With the producer and owner Anders Paulsson (known from the pop-rock group Atomic Swing), they paid all the costs by themself to later find out that the Nuclear Blast sub-label, Radiation Records, was very interested to release Serpent`s debut full-length album. Said and done, the band sold the recording and the record was released during 1996. Just before the actual release of the debut album, Piotr decided to leave his drumkit to concentrate only his vocal duties. The drumdude became Ulfs former bandmate from Suffer, Per Karlsson.

In The Garden Of...Serpent shows that Serpent is a quality doom rock/metal outfit with roots in bands like The Obsessed, Motorhead and Black Sabbath. The band wasnt too happy with the outcome of the debut album, they felt like they had being thrown in a garbage can to speak it out loud! Early 1997 they asked to get the boot from Radiation Records, which showed wasnt any problem at all. In the meantime Serpent former bassplayer Lars Rosenberg quit. The one who took his place was no one else than founding member, Andreas Wahl. With the new line-up they recorded the track The Fog for two compilation CD`s, one for Burn Records and one for the Shadows Of Michelangelo Magazine CD-sampler. At the same time they also signed a deal with the Swedish Metal label Heathendoom Music.

In April 97 they entered Adolf Fredriks Musikskolas studio in Stockholm, Sweden with the engineer Peter Hansson (earlier with Therion) to start the recordings for the second album, the one to be known as Autumn Ride. This album was mixed by Tomas Skogsberg and Serpent at the legendary Sunlight Studio. The Autumn Ride CD did pretty good and sold out of it's 2.000 copies and Serpent was featured in many magazines around europe like Hammer!, Heavy Oder Was!?...etc, thats not too bad for being released on an small independent label as Heathendoom Music. But as they also put their business on ice, Serpent was labelless again. Plus that bassist Andreas Wahl decided to disappear again and at the same time guitarist Johan Lundell stopped showing up at rehearsals. Things like that hadnt stopped Serpent before, so off they went recording a brand new third album in 1999, by the help of Sami (a near friend of the band and drummer of Therion) the band recorded nine tracks in Samis own studio.

This album was sent out to various Doom labels, but none were showing anykind of interest. One thing worth mentioning is that the Rise Above manager Lee Dorrian (also known as the lead singer in Cathedral) actually thought that Serpent is Too Heavy!! Too Doomy!!.... And he, by none, is supossed to be some kind of Doom master!! Ehh!!

During 1999 Serpent also recorded a track for the Black Sabbath tribute album Dehumanized Witch (DIO-era). But actually it was taken off the album as the label who released it thought that Serpent had changed to much lyricwise. Haha... They did a version of the track Master Of Insanity from Dehumanizer and in the end of the track they changed Master Of Insanity to Master Of Reality instead, just for the fun of it and to show that Serpent would like to point out that without Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath there wouldnt have been any Master Of Reality and without Master Of Reality there wouldnt have been any Dehumanizer or any Master Of Insanity, or any other Black Sabbath songs worth mentioning either for that matter. It was just meant as a salute to Ozzy as well as the rest of the guys in Sabbath. So, fuck that, too!!!

The third album, known to the world as Trinity, is a cool and very rare recording from the summer of 1999 with lots of groovy and doomy riffs mixed with Killer vocals from Piotr Wawrzeniuk (known for his work with bands like THERION, CARBONIZED, THE ROBOTS...etc). You can also find some more varied influences from bands like Thin Lizzy that you havent heard from these guys before! This album was supossed to be released by the Swedish label Freedom Records, but it was delayed as hell and just went in the garbage as so many times before!

Nevermind, now SERPENT has signed a deal with the Dutch label VIC RECORDS, and they will release the third album "Trinity" during the fall of 2006. Actually it's more or less 9 years after the latest release "Autumn Ride". Talking of that record, VIC RECORDS will also re-release the "Autumn Ride" with an extra bonus track. What about that??

There's also some small talk about MAYBE doing a brand new SERPENT album after the release of "Trinity", but only time will tell about that will happen or not??!!

If you say you like DOOM, then SERPENT is your thing!
