Le groupe prépare actuéllement une deuxième démo, grossos modo les morceaux sont composés, il va rester l'enregistement.

The words 'old-school' don’t really begin to define Herpes' sound; they play an incredibly raw, primitive and archaic form of
Death Metal that can only be found at the very early, sludgy beginnings of the scene – it reminds me of bands like
Impetigo,
Autopsy, early
Obituary, you can also hear a smattering of early Death in there.
For lovers of the lost art of dark, grisly and primitive
Death Metal this is an immensely enjoyable romp; every track is
Bleak, heavy, crushing and full of that
Morbid atmosphere that satisfied so many
Extreme metal fans in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The production is definitely demo standard, but that’s not a
Negative point in this case – the guitars have a wonderfully sludgy sound, as though they have been dredged up from the
Bottom of a murky lake, and overall the sound is clear but dark and grim at the same time – people used to release albums that sounded like this! Admittedly, it is a little difficult to distinguish one track from another – the distinct lack of memorable melody is something that is both a blessing and a
Curse in this case. Five tracks is exactly the right amount of this kind of music – I think a full length album would become a rather monotonous, unless the band developed their music a little further.
There isn’t really a lot else to say – I enjoyed this 5 track demo and all its grisly offerings. I sincerely hope this band get round to making some more music soon. Like the disease, this band’s tunes are extremely infectious, and get under your skin pretty quickly!

Death Metal d’outre-tombe... “Doomsday” pourrait bien être pour vous ! Mais attention, seulement si vos oreilles n’ont pas oublié le bonheur de ce son écrasé et brut, et si vous ne jurez pas que par une
Prod énorme et monstrueuse. Parce que clairement, HERPES n’a pas là le son de Göteborg des années 2000,
mais plutôt la saveur d’une démo de la fin des années 80, aux relents d’AUTOPSY, enregistrée avec brutalité et sueur de bière dans le fond d’un garage.
En vingt-deux minutes et cinq titres, ces joyeux français vont vous donner votre dose de riffs venant des abysses de l’accordage, des accélérations pouvant provoquer chez certains une forte crise de priapisme, et des retombées apocalyptiques dans les profondeurs quasi-doomesques. HERPES n’est probablement pas un groupe absolument
incontournable, mais pour le plaisir que cette démo procure elle mérite de passer par votre platine. C’est peut-être une forme de nostalgie, mais regarder vingt ans en arrière et revenir dans sa jeunesse métallique, ça fait du bien ! Quoi qu’on puisse dire de la qualité sonore de “Doomsday”, l’esprit est intact, et rien que pour ça je les remercie.

Stare dobre AUTOPSY odcisnelo swoje niewatpliwe pietno na francuskim HERPES. Slychac to przez wieksza czesc trwania ich demówki pt. "Doomsday". Praktycznie calosc jest do szpiku kosci przezarta kwasem grobowego, ohydnego death metalu z poczatku lat 90-ych, ze wskazaniem wlasnie na ekipe dowodzona przez Chrisa Reiferta. Cytaty z wczesnej twórczosci tego zacnego amerykanskiego skladu sa tu moze nie doslowne, ale bez wahania mozna je odczytac z podobnie budowanych utworów i grobowego brzmienia, pracy gitar, basu i perkusji, buldogowatych wokali, doom'owych zwolnien, a nawet zblizonych rozwiazan w gitarowych smaczkach i solówkach. Brakuje temu nieco lepszego soundu, bo chwilami nagranie naprawde wyglada na zarejestrowane w sali prób, bez jakichkolwiek studyjnych nakladek i poprawek. Ma to swój niewatpliwy urok, lecz obawiam sie, ze moze stac sie przeszkoda dla wielu fanów przyzwyczajonych do ciut lepszej, czytelniejszej produkcji nagran. Chociaz ja jestem akurat przekonany, ze do takich ludzi "Doomsday" nie jest kierowane, a ten rodzaj brudu i obskurnosci dzwieku ma z pewnoscia
przypomniec o tym, co zagubiono przez ostatnie kilkanascie lat w metalu, cyzelujac kazdy dzwiek na sto sposobów i wzorujac sie na gwiazdkach popu, a nie najlepszych w ciezkim gatunku. Przyznam jednak, ze za kilka tysiecy, a byc moze tylko kilkaset godzin wypelnionych ciezka praca w rehearsing room HERPES ma szanse wyrosnac na klasowy zespól, wlasciwie rozumiejacy ducha starego, apokaliptycznego death metalu. Juz teraz polecam wsluchac sie w numery "Corrupted Flesh", "Doomsday" czy "Frozen Funeral". A note obnizam glównie z powodu braku oryginalnosci. 7/ 10

Desde Francia llegan estos HERPES presentándonos su demo “Doomsday” del 2010 con 5 temas de death metal opresivo y oscuro de corte clásico. El estilo que practican realmente no es nada novedoso ni original sino que apuestan directamente por las estructuras más clásicas y típicas de bandas tales como INCANTATION, unos primeros ASPHYX con esos interludios más doomeros y lentos adornados con lóbregas melodías de guitarra, el macarrismo descarado de unos AUTOPSY/ABSCESS o incluso unos NECROS CHRISTOS sobretodo en lo que al apartado vocal se refiere. Desde mi punto de vista, su propuesta es más cercana al death metal europeo (nada que ver con el death metal sueco marca BOSS HM2) que al metal muerto de la zona de Florida. No hay ningún tema a reseñar especialmente, pues todos mantienen una linealidad bastante homogénea y lógica dentro de los patrones del death metal clásico en los que se mueven. En ese sentido, no hay ningún “hit” a destacar sobre los demás aunque quizá el más sobresaliente de todos sea el segundo “Stench of Death” precisamente por ser el más variopinto de todos y el que incluye más cambios y dinamismo de toda la demo. El tema-título “Doomsday” también es bastante válido por el solo de guitarra bastante guapo que se marca … ¡Pierre-Yves? ¿Hans? Ni idea… cualquiera de los dos guitarristas. Mención aparte el tema “Frozen Funeral” que en su parte central hace gala de unos tristes teclados, mientras que el solo final me suena un poco cutre y triste (en el sentido de malo). La presentación es correcta sin ser nada del otro mundo, en formato cd entero. Portada en blanco y negro, “libreto” fotocopiado y contraportada también fotocopiada, mientras que el plástico es un cd-r con una pegatina blanca en la que han escrito a boli (AZUL!!!!) “HERPES” y punto y final. Ni plástico envolviéndolo ni nada que se le asemeje, no hay bio, explicación alguna ni letras. En ese sentido, he visto demos bastante más curradas, sobretodo teniendo en cuenta la época en la que estamos. Joder, las demos en K7 molaban un huevo pero reconozcamos que el nivel de exigencia ha ido subiendo en los últimos años, máxime teniendo en cuenta la gran cantidad de competencia que está proliferando por doquier. La nota cómica la pone el tal guitarra Hans… resulta curioso que los miembros de la banda aparezcan en las fotos con una relativa “seriedad” o “mala leche” - el bajista aparece en una montaña gritándole a la providencia; el cantante con el pelo tapándole por completo la cara – y el susodicho Hans sale sosteniendo una guitarra mientras pone cara de Kai Hansen en el video de “I Want Out” de Helloween, todo feliz y contento con una camiseta de Converse… después el resto de las fotos del libreto vuelven a ser todas en plan “chungo” y “qué malo soy”, al lado de unas ruinas con los brazos en alto y chillando o delante de un crucifijo en la contraportada. No dispongo de datos acerca del lugar de la grabación de la demo aunque no suena nada mal… ¡suena… a … demo… qué cojones! ¡No está mal, pero muy mucho tendrán que currárselo si piensan editar un cd completo!

French Death Metallers HERPES sent me their debute demo CDr, "Doomsday", and here are my thoughts. HERPES really draws their influences from AUTOPSY and early DEATH. This is very clear from the beginning. The old-school underground feeling is very present during the entire demo. This I love! The sound is raw and brutal. The
drums get punished furiously. The vocals is perfectly fitted in relation to the music, and the rest of the group does their work great.
Most bands get boring to listen to after a while, and since this is the first time I hear them, time will tell if they end up as "just another band", or really stand out. I see potential, but I don't see them doing anything really unique.With that said, there is no doubt about that these guys are really competent musicians.
